Since Santa proves to be unreliable, I took it upon my self to snag a d7000 body from my local dealer...who fortunately has been able to keep them in stock I think. I've been working most of the day, but the first impressions are good. I plan to post some a/b examples between it and the d90 before I sell it. Any requests for sample images? And yes john, I will write a reveiw once I get to know her a bit better.

The D7000 pushes the high ISO limit up one stop or more. At the moment I struggle a bit with the D300 (=D90) at theatre performances, model shoots on a runway and indoor sports would also be a problem. I would be interested to see some results from the D7000 at this sort of event at 3200 ISO, 6400 ISO and 12800 ISO, if you have the opportunity.

It would also be interesting to see how the D7000 does against the D700 or D3 (but you can't do that).

Second one is iso 6400, jpeg sooc. Cropped about 100% to show off the hansomness of that fellow and expose the noise better.

Only 900 ISO? Indoors I would set it at 3200 ISO and see what happens. Get you more depth of field.

If you're going to thin the heard then I would get rid of the D40 first (lens compatibility with your 50mm) but I guess you'd get more for the D90.

I was wanting that tree blurred out...wasn't really thinking of you guys at the moment. I actually posted the d90 on craigslist and had it sold w/in 12 hours...take that eBay! I figure the d40 wouldn't fetch much, and I really didn't have any business just outright buying a new body, so sacrifices had to be made. Besides, I like keeping the d40 around as something I can be ok with taking out when there's a risk of damage.

So, here's a few just to serve as a gauge for the iso I suppose.
First is just a reference of the actual lighting, shot at iso 800, 2.8, 1/60 w/ my 60mm
Second is at 1600, third at 3200, fourth at 6400, and fifth at 12800. All in from raw w/ only minor sharpening in acr.

Oh, could someone tell me how to put the text between the photos? I just batch upload.

OK see what you mean about the tree.

It would have been nicer to have all the different ISO's correctly exposed so we could compare directly but what you've shown us is enough to understand that 12800 ISO is fully usable. Exit the advantage of the D700. All my high-ISO shots are for web pages or small prints. I need something that looks right, not ultimate quality.
