Is it to add working distance? If that is the case, your 100mm macro is being used like the 100mm non-macro version (in case people viewing this thread have that particular lens instead of the macro). I recently bought the 85mm f/1.8 and initial tests with the tubes are spectacular.

    Please clarify. Thanks!

I really don't have a specific reason for trying out the tupes with my 100mm macro. I just grabbed a couple lens, and started playing. I will have to do some experimenting with the lens by itself, and with the tubes to see if there is much difference in magnification.

    OK, I understand

For others out there: a true "macro" lens is really just an ordinary lens which has extension built-in to allow it to focus closer than normal. True they are optimized to produce a flatter field of view at close distances. But this difference can only be appreciated if you are taking pictures of flat subjects (copy work). In the real world, this difference can be hard to spot.

Still, if anyone out there has BOTH the 100mm f/2 (with tubes) AND the 100mm f/2.8 macro, I'd love to see a side-by-side of the same subject at the same magnification!

Remember all, if you don't own a "true" macro, don't think that you can't produce a good macro image (that's a lot of negatives - I think I said what I wanted to say ).
