    Prisoner

This is a captive bird on display. I don't recognize him. Do you? I don't think he is American (at least North American)...

Re: Early Spring 07 Bird ID Thread

    I KNOW I KNOW I KNOW lol

I used to sell these guys at a pet store I worked at over 10 years ago. It is a Zebra finches.

Taeniopygia guttata guttata, the Timor Zebra Finch, extends from Lombok in the Lesser Sunda Islands or Nusa Tenggara in Indonesia to Sermata in addition to coastal areas around the continent of Australia.

One of the most common finches used in scientific research.

WOOHOO I knew one for a change lol.

I was out a few hours today and here are a few of the shots I took. I didn't see a lot of birds but I took a lot of pictures of the ones I saw.

That's a black rail right!!!!! They are so cool. I hear one every spring calling(kekedoo), but I will be dambed if I can find it. I seen one about 5 years ago, but it was 500 feet away through a 60x spotting scope.

three birds I don't know. I assume some kind of sparrow, a thrush, and I have no idea on the third, except that it was large and rust colored.

I shot this on top of Mount Masada in Israel. The birds were used to human exposure and let people walk right up to them.

Re: Early Spring 07 Bird ID Thread

Found a nifty area to photograph birds this past weekend at the nearby state park. I found this pretty little Black-throated Green warbler:

Early Spring 07 Bird ID Thread-black-throated-green-warbler.jpg

Then i saw this one hopping around in some bushes with another little bird that looked like a ruby-crowned kinglet(wasn't able to get a pic of the kinglet.) I wasn't sure what this one was at first, but after looking thru the guidebook I think its a Least Flycatcher. Correction anyone?

Re: Early Spring 07 Bird ID Thread

Went off in search of more Scarlet Tanagers and I came across this guy twice (once in the morning, once in the evening) in more or less the same area. Only got 1 crummy shot off though.

    I'm thinking it's a Summer Tanager?
