Randy, that's an eastern phoebe. They started showing up in your area within the last 2 weeks at longest.

These landed in a flock 15 feet from me. I grabbed the 300mm lens I had nearby and got three shots before they flew off. This one is cropped a good bit and monkeyed with in PS. Exciting for me though; these aren't local.

With the dark iris and missing red orbital ring, it kind of looks like a California gull (maybe due to a shadow). I wish the tip of the bill could be seen.

This is a captive bird on display. I don't recognize him. Do you? I don't think he is American (at least North American)...

Went off in search of more Scarlet Tanagers and I came across this guy twice (once in the morning, once in the evening) in more or less the same area. Only got 1 crummy shot off though.

I'm thinking it's a Summer Tanager?

oh sorry, northern harrier female I do believe(may be a juvenile, but I can't see the chest)

I do believe you are right, but I can't be too sure. I have never seen an allen's female before, but the colors look right.

hmmm, in your area and from this shot it could be and allen, blackchin, costas, caliope, broadtail or even a rufus. the rufus generally breed and nest farther north but there is nothing in hummers that is set in stone. especially where you live.

my first choices, with this shot, would be allen and then blackchin.

your area is loaded with them. got any more shots?

and btw, i envy your nest shots as i have hundreds of hummers but have never seen a nest.

the fact that i live in oak woodland foothills doesn't help. i have over 60 oaks in my yard alone. try to follow a needle hummer to a nest in that haystack

This little sparrow has me stumped... the closest match I can find is a chipping sparrow(?).

That IS a chipping sparrow and yes the tree swallows are performing a mating ritual.

The first is a field sparrow and the second looks like a song sparrow to me.

After being away for only a few days, I returned to my normal marsh/fields to see a bunch of these. Coexists well with the mallards but much smaller.
