Yes, I run my screen at 1024 x 768 and it is just too wide for me. If you keep to 800 x 640 you should be safe with most audiences without having to scroll at all, especially your main.html page, which is your chance to keep your audience without them moving on, due to scolling issues, which people don't really like doing. Also generally people read from top left to bottom right, so keep the most important things within this visual field of view.

    Honestly, I didn't notice...

I was kind of distracted by how great you and your site look, Melissa...

Unfortunately, there are many people still running their monitors at 800x600. Throw in the fact that AOL and other servicers take up a large part of the screen space, and you're lucky to get a 760 pixel wide site on the screen!

Design your site for 760px (I always use 752 for some reason) wide. You can use tables and what not to have it expand with larger windows, but 760 should be the primary design focus. Height is less of a factor as people generally do not mind scrolling up and down a little.

You can use Java script to detect the resolution setting of some ones computer screen, I don't know exactly how to do it but I know that you can do it in flash, Its called a shared object, you can find out more about it if you use a search engine. A good book to use would be Dreamweaver Demystified, Using dreamweaver allows you to write JavaScript through a wizard, Coffee Cup html editor is a good program too, and another good book to reference is HTML for dummies I learnde alot from it because when I started out in web design I was and maybe still am a dummy LOL. Shared objects are great because it will automatically resize the page to match the users computer setting and it can even detect things like what Operating System they are using and whether or not they have the flash plugin or whatever player you they are have and it will execute different commands based on the retrieved data.

I'm running my screen at a fairly standard 1024x768 and the site looks fine to me.

    Actually it looks great!
