    wide angle converter?

I looked at a wide angle converter today. It costs about $199. I thought I'd use it on my 28-90 Rebel Ti lens. I really love pronounced wide-angle landscape and city shots.

Would it be better to just invest in a dedicated lens instead?

    Re: wide angle converter?

Sounds a bit steep to me - especially with Wide Angle screw-on attachments available all over eBay for around $50 or so.

For overall optical quality, a dedicated lens would generally be better - even a cheap one. But, as I'm sure you already know, the stuff below 28mm gets pricey in a hurry.

Just at a quick glance on B&H's site, for Super Wide in the EOS mount:
    Cheapest is a Phoenix 19-35/3.5-4.5, at $154.95
    Probable best quality/value is a Tokina AF193 - same mm & f specs - $199 less a $20 rebate.
Canon brand 20-35 starts at $369.

Looking at Fisheye - the ultimate wide angle - reveals a pair of 15mm/2.8's - Sigma at $449, and Canon at $555 after a rebate. And an 8mm f4 Sigma at $589.

I won't even bother with the many options that are over $1000.......

    Re: wide angle converter?

I'd look for a Canon 20mm prime. With Nikon, it's a very sharp lens and better at 20mm than the 20-35 zoom. With wide angle zooms (even good ones) there will be more flare and distortion than a prime - plus the size, weight and price. So why did I sell mine?...

    Kelly,

How wide to you want to go? I bought an MC Zenitar 16mm Fish Eye off the net a couple years ago. Here is a link to one on ebay I haven't used it much so I really don't know what to tell you about the optical quality, but it's nice to have the extra wide angle when needed. It is a fully manual lens which really lowers the cost. There are no electronics in the lens what so ever so you have to adjust it all yourself, but if you shoot in manual mode, that's nothing new. Just thought I would mention it as an inexpensive option.
