    I think I broke my N80

I was trying to use a remote cable release (the 20' air tube type with the bulb) and nothing was happening (shutter would not release). So I thought maybe the air tube thing was broke and I screwed in the regular 12" cable release and now that won't work either (and it worked before I used the air tube thing). The camera will fire without the remote release, but I really used the short one a lot on the tripod.

I checked both remote releases and the plunger does come out when it should but it won't trigger the camera.

Any thoughts, or is it off to the repair center?

    Thanks,

    PG

Sorry you've got no responses. I can't help as much as I can offer a possible alternative - the self timer. I have a Fuji S2 (same body), and have always just used a 2 second self timer to avoid camera shake. Of course, a moving subject won't work too well with this technique!

Seems like service work is fairly expensive if out of warranty (hope it isn't!) but probably worth calling 800-NIKON-US to see what they say.

Yes its out of warranty. Good idea on using the self timer, I'll use that.

    Thanks,

Just wondering, will the shutter fire manually? If not your batteries may be dead.

Sorry, I should've read more carefully.
Anyway, try extending the plunger and inserting it into the slot by hand, perhaps you can tell if there is a jam. Also, sometimes the angle of the cable can cause binding (that won't help with your air release though).

Thanks for the suggestion. I fiddled with it some this weekend, but still can't make it work. Hmm,,,, maybe a new camera?

    Thanks,

Maybe - if it's really important to have it. You probably wouldn't get much money for it to sell it as is so I'd keep it as at least a backup.

I don't think the new camera will happen, I won't be able to get permission from the "ministry of finance". You're probably right it wouldn't be worth much to sell, and I have a hard time parting with any of my photo equipment anyway, even if I'm not using it. I still have my K1000 in the closet!
