    How to clean LCD monitors?

I have some fingerprints on the monitor of my new laptop and I'm a little concerned about cleaning it. I called Toshiba and spoke to a woman who told me that windex is fine to use, or any other glass cleaner. Is this ok? There was a bit of a language problem and I'm not sure if she understood that my screan is not glass like a regular monitor. I just want to make sure that regular glass cleaner is ok to use before I try it.

Not sure about that because I don't have one myself. If you use a spray cleaner, make sure you spray it on the towel and not directly on the screen.

Hi Michael, there are products out there for cleaning LCD screens, but you can use a soft cloth with diluted isopropyl alcohol, or windex. If I use windex, I even dilute that a bit. Steve's advice is right on. Never spray the screen.
The cloth shouldn't be soaking wet, just dampened enough to glide easily over the screen.

I breath on mine and wipe it with a soft cloth. Never had a problem. Just remember it is a delicate thing and needs to be treated that way.

Lara's suggestion is a good one as well, and certainly never spray on to the screen at all.

Thanks for the info everyone. You verified what the nice woman at Toshiba told me. I just wanted to double check before going ahead with it. A little lens cleaner on a soft towel did the trick. Thanks again!

    Michael,

You will probably find the lens cleaner is Isopropyl Alchohol which is a good thing.

I don't know about LCD screens but I use microfiber cloths to clean plexiglas windshields and visors. It's also what the optomalogist sells to clean eyeglasses with. You can buy a pack of a few cloths at walmart near the car cleaning stuff. (they also have packs of small cheap terrycloth towels there that I use as cheap rags around the garage and house)
