Question Hlp Plz Used Nikon N65 For $200?

Im a novice at photography and im taking a photography class in highschool and i need a 35mm slr camera, i found out that one of my former teachers is selling a used Nikon n65 camera with a nikor lens, strap, and bag for around $200. Its had about 10-12 rolls of film go through it, i was wondering if that is a reliable camera and if that price is acceptable. thank you in advance

I had a F65/N65 for a while. I never had any problems with it. It's supposed to be a more robust camera than the F75/N75 that replaced it - the F65 is actually based on the F80 chassis. I can't comment on the price (I live in Europe and prices bear no comparison with the USA).

The only problem with the F65/N65 is the user interface - the controls. On paper it looks like it can do all the same things as the F80 but in practice the controls are fiddly. Example - to change the focussing zone you have to press a button and turn a wheel whereas on the F80 or F75 you have the touchpad just under your thumb.

Check www.keh.com for what the camera's worth, they sell a ton of used equipment. You could also check completed items on ebay, but without knowing which lens it is it's hard to say. Nikkor lenses go for $100 up to thousands!

Here's an eBay listing to ponder:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...836211801&rd=1

This is a package deal currently being offered by Cameta. They have several listed, so if this one runs out before you see it, check their other listings for more.

The N65, a 28-80 lens, and a Flash unit. Factory Demo sets with a 1-year warranty. Looks like they're going out the door in the $160 range, plus $16 shipping.

Thus, either a basis for doing a slightly different purchasing plan, or getting the teacher down somewhat on the price.

Let us know how this story ends.

Knowing the history of the camera and knowing enough about the person selling it - to know that they're not trying to sell something with problems - is worth a lot too. Find out what you're getting and what it would cost new too. Then use some of the methods previously described here to come up with a price that's fair to both of you.

I recently did something like that when I bought a camera from a friend. He's a pro so I know it has a lot of miles on it, so to speak - but I also know he takes good care of his equipment. We both came up with a number, and our numbers were very close. His number was lower and accepted that amount, so we both feel pretty good about the deal.

I can understand being on a budget - photography does that to people...

If I have this right, he wants $200 and you're willing to spend $175. That's pretty close and whether or not it's a good deal is really something that only you can answer. If you feel like it's too much, then walk away. There will be more cameras for sale, but like I said earlier - knowing it's history is worth something (to me, anyway). Good luck.

can anyone post up a link to an online version on the n65 manual?
