What to buy? S1? S2?

I am a journalism student in my second year and I hope to be doing a lot of photojournalism and some sports shooting when I am finsihed my schooling. I have been using a Canon film SLR for a while but I am looking for a digital now. I was thinking of getting a Fuji S2 but I also found a few S1s kicking around that are much more in my price range (I am a student remember ). Has anyone used an S1 before? How do they compare to an S2? Are they even worth getting, or will I need to upgrade right away? I have found an S1 for $650 and S2 for $1600 or an can get a Canon 20D for $1895, all in Canadian funds with no lenses. What are some of your opinions?

you can get a CANON D60 for $600 or a 10D for $900 US prices a few places on the net
