Re: Fuji S3 Pro sensor analysis

Welcome to the forum and thanks for posting this. I have to admit I haven't read the whole page yet but I'll be back to it. Will Crockett recently put something on his site about the S3 and has sample images to view, large enough to print. You may have to register to view it but it's free.

I'm a devoted S2 fan but haven't yet decided on the S3 for me personally.

Thanks for posting that link and sharing your camera comparison with us. It has a ton of data and looks well-done and useful. Please post a review in our review section, too. That's the best way to make sure your experience with the S3 is saved in an easy to find, archived place. Anything you post on the forums will likely get lost over time. Plus, we only have two reviews for the Fuji S3, so far. Your review would be a welcome addition: http://www.pcphotoreview.com/Profess...8_3127crx.aspx

Thanks for posting and welcome to the site!

Re: Fuji S3 Pro sensor analysis

Take a look at the hands on review at Luminous Landscape. The conclusion there is that the dynamic range is not reallly all that different than other top quality sensors.

"I know that I'm going to roast in hell for these conclusions (or at least on some Fuji oriented discussion boards), but the reality is that I simply don't see a huge advantage from the Fuji over competitive cameras in this area. Maybe my test methodology is flawed. But I know that my eyes aren't, and no matter whether I process the Fuji's files in Fuji's Ultra software (which I'm not that familiar with) or in Phase One's Capture One Pro 3.6 software (which I'm very familiar with) I get very similar results. The files are very nice, and have good dynamic range, but are simply not that much better than what I see from either the Canon 20D or the Canon 1Ds Mark II to get all that excited about."

"Every great decision creates ripples--like a huge boulder dropped in a lake. The ripples merge and rebound off the banks in unforseeable ways.
