New pro films from Kodak & Fuji

Le Photographe has a piece on new film announcements.

Kodak announce a new colour negative film family called Elitecolor in 200 & 400 ISO speeds. These films replace the Royal Supra family and Portra 400UC. (I can't find any news about this on the Kodak web site, however.)

Fuji announce the Fujicolor Pro family with films called 160S, 160C, 400H and 800Z. The 160 speed films are really new and replace NPS and NPC. The other two are the existing NPH and NPZ repackaged.

Interesting Charles, considering Kodak Australia is closing a factory here in Australia and 300 people are out of work. Reportedly due to decline in use of film.

Kodak are also going to close 5 labs in France (out of 11) again due to reduction in film usage. Kodak and others are installing self-service minilabs at point of sale, where the client goes in with a CD-ROM or memory card, puts it in the machine and comes away with a print done on the spot.

This announcement doesn't mention anything about the 800 ISO film so I suppose that disappears. Kodak used to have two ranges of films from 100 ISO to 800 ISO (called Supra and Royal Gold if I remember correctly). That's 8 films which have been cut down to - 2.
