Re a query under "Egyptian Vegetable Merchant" as to whether I had more Egyptian photos: yes I have tons! (and will have more soon as I am off there again in 3 weeks time).
This one is a basket merchant in the market in Luxor. I was attracted to the diagonal(ish) composition. These guys are incredibly photogenic!
As always, comments always welcome.
Cheers

Mike,
They are photogenic and it could be the transition to the size of picture your allowed on here but your photos don't seem as sharp as they could be, are you scanning from film?
I do like the photo and it really works in B&W - however a little less contrast may work here so that you can see his face better. Another option here would be to crop the bottom baskets out of the photo giving you a completely different view concentaring on the basket seller himself.
Looking forward to seeing more of you work.
By the way do you ask your subjects for permission before shooting or are they unaware of you taking the photos? because I can't make out whether they are posed or not.
I don't know why this pic works so well, but it does! nice composition or whatever!
This has a timeless quality, could be from the 20's or earlier! Nice B&W!
Mark.

Mike,
Wonderful shot. Love the use of black and white and composition is just right on.
Great shooting,
