    Why all the new posters?

Did this site recently get mentioned in a magazine/newspaper,television show? I've noticed a slew of posts by people with only post recently.
I know this happened at TGR forums after a mention in Skiing magazine and am wondering if something similar happened with this site.

For those that know anything about TGR, lets hope that the reaction to the new folks on this site is more positive and welcoming than it was there.

Re: Why all the new posters?

Reaction to new people here is almost always positive. We are a very welcoming community. As for the reason, it's hard to know for sure. But I think we're getting a lot of new people because of attention to our digital camera pro reviews and previews. Percentage-wise, there really aren't that many new members. But they may be more obvious to people who are on the forums a lot. Personally, I'm glad to hear that there are lots of new people showing up on the forums. I hope everyone here makes them feel welcome, helps them find what they need, and encourages them to write reviews for the cameras and other photo gear. :-)

I was brought here by word of mouth, and I'm glad I listened I spend more time on this site than I do my own... One of the big reasons I've stuck around and plan to sick around is how nice everyone is even when they have something negative to say about your photos. I like to say, when you can help rather than hinder you will always go further, and that is how this site really works. We are all here because we really love photography, and we want others to enjoy it just as much as we do.

Amen to that.... I'm not exactly new here, but seem to come and go in spurts (I'll be more consistent in the future, I promise) and have always found everyone here to be great and very knowledgeable.

Maybe I'm just noticing the new folks more since I've been on more recently...

I'd have to agree that there has been a recent influx of new people, which we like

I heard of this place from MTBR, the sister site (Or brother site, dad of, mom of, whatever) of this one. I think I've only met one person off this site in person, but I've gotten close to meeting a few others.

There must be some reasons that us mountain bikers like photography... Maybe we secretly like to drop lots of cash on gear only to have joe 6 pack let us know that he can get something "just as good" for x amount of dollars at whatever discount retailer. I guess that probably applies more to MTB than photo, but you get my point..

I think I found this site through MTBR as well. I liked the premise of MTBR and wondered if there were sites like this that extended to my other hobbies...and this link was on MTBR...
I've met some PR members in person in SF for a meet...that was cool.

Also met a few from MTBR by joining in on a local group ride, fun stuff....but dang it was hard to keep up.

It's because are going at a slower pace and see the beauty in the world, unlike most people who are wizzing by in their SUV's talking on a cell phone. It's what got me started at this to begin with. I wanted to photography what I was seeing. The world from a different angle and the beauty of the world most just overlook. You need to ride a bike to understand.

As a "new poster" I can tell you I found this site through a google search.

I should probably lurk a bit before getting my feet wet but I can tell you so far the "pace" and the lack of rude children is refreshing....

Oh, oh, just gave away my age, didn't I?

    Cheers for now, Don

Found it by accident during some searching for info on the Canon Rebel XTi... and have been here ever since (not that long yet, but the friendliness of the community has kept me here)
