What a difference a few months make...

It was just last November that Dennis Hastert would be constantly surrounded by security guards. Now he's just dropped off at the banquet hall by himself. It's fascinating to me how people in the US can shift between positions of high national importance and just being an average Joe so easily. He's looking good, lost a lot of weight since the last time I've photographed him.

He was the guest speaker at a Republican event in the area. Listening to him recall his day in Washington on September 11th, 2001 was a very enlightening experience, on many levels.

My favorite part about doing news work is that on levels large and small, you're documenting history. Sometimes it's local, sometimes it's national, but it's always meaningful on one level or another.



On another note, this is one of the first images I've processed for the web using Pixelmator. Not without its faults, but a nice little app.

Really, it's great that you realize this because it is true. Keep doing what you're doing! I think I've mentioned this - maybe a few times - but waiting to meet David Hume Kennerly I heard him talk about something along these lines. I enjoyed just eavesdropping...

This is a great shot, and it fits right into your story about how things change over a short period of time. I like the way you captured him - walking alone through the glass (lighting making a sort of tinted effect) - also making his slightly bent figure less obtrusive - and the winter scene in the background symbolic of the "change of seasons" of his life. Although he is not surrounded by people, someone is watching him from the car. (I have a great imagination). :idea:

BTW - the lighting is perfect on this image.

Your imagination isn't far off, someone was driving the car to drop him off, so they very well could have been watching him. Thanks for the kind words.
