    Wenatchee!

That's right, I'm on the road again. Taking a little vacation road trip before my busy fall season starts. For the past couple of days I've been in Wenatchee, Washington for a music festival and, of course, some mountain biking. Tomorrow we head for Hood River, Oregon for a couple more days of riding before heading back to Salt Lake City.

I've heard good things about Wenatchee but it has still been a surprise. The Columbia River Gorge is beautiful and the town of Wenatchee is in a wonderful location with a great climate and very interesting geology. It's pretty far off the beaten path but definitely worth visiting.

Wenatchee has some scenery but the surrounding areas, especially north and east are where I head when I'm on that side of the state. A half hour from Wenatchee is Leavenworth which is cute if you like Bavarian stuff.

We actually talked about that, Patia. I told them about the crazy valley Thompson Falls is in and the big whirlpool pit east of Paradise that Gisselbeck showed me when we were in high school :-)

Great shots, John! What beautiful scenery. It's great you are taking some time for yourself and having fun.

I love those bike shots......makes me want to go back on vacation (just returned).

Wow, Don G. knew about the floods back then? Cool. I'm guessing the big whirlpool might be Rainbow Lake AKA Dog Lake?

    Re: Wenatchee!

Most people think of Washington as the Evergreen state with rain forests, Mt. Rainier, Seattle, and Puget Sound.
In fact most of the state looks more like what PJ has shown around Wenatchee.
The floods mentioned by patia shaped the landscape from Montana to the Pacific ocean.

Here's a good link but I wouldn't open it unless you have some time to explore.

The whirlpool scar I'm talking about isn't even a lake. It's just a big pit in the ground on a pass somewhere east of Paradise, if I remember right. It's very undramatic unless you know what made it. It's been a long time so I don't remember very clearly. But I think it sort of looked like a small, steep gravel quarry. Ask Don about it. I'm sure he can give you more details.

Hmm, maybe it's on Markle Pass between Camas Prairie and Hot Springs. Did he show you the giant ripples in Camas Prairie? I'll ask him when I get a chance.

I think so. That sounds familiar and brings an image to mind. We did some interesting stuff for entertainment back then
