well found out how good sigma lens are

well last night I was uploading new pics and my cat knocked over my camera and it fell only 1 foot. it landed on the corner of the lens. I picked it up to inspect it and well Know that you can not the sigmas from a foot. right above the aperture ring snapped and is hanging by a thread together. It only a year old and I hope they will warranty it. there are no impact marks at all. And I need a wide angle lens for a upcoming bike shoot in a studio and my 70-200 is way to big for this. dang my luck and all my friends use canon

Ok, do be scientific and not subjective, drop a Canon L lens in the same way. Then to rule out statistical error, do 10 lenses of each, and let us know exactly how much more durable the Canon lens is.

well I dropped my 70-200 vr lens twice from about 6 feet. (somebody knocked it from me) and did nothing. but yeah nikon or canon lens they are the big bucks ones are very very durable. you get what you pay for. Sooooo i ordered a 50mm 1.8 af today so hopefully this would work well in stead of the 24-70 for time being. here on out all nikon lenses

Yeah, I was being a bit facetious. I didn't catch that last part where you said all your friend were shooting Canon- hence, the problem of not being able to borrow a lens. But hey, at your record of dropping lenses, maybe they wouldn't want you borrowing one anyway???

Can you rent one for the job? Dunno what's around where you live, but even for my Sony you can rent lenses from a few online places. Might be fun to try out a 300 2.8 for a couple of days... but even renting one of those would cost some $$.

I had my Sony w/ the Ziess 16-80 fall out of my Nissan Xterra to hard packed dirt one day, luckily the lens cap was on, and the only damage was a couple of small scratches on the cap, the hood (was reversed), and a bit on the outside of the lens. I was ticked, because my wife set it on her bag in the front seat floor area of the passenger side of the car. I opened the door- out came the camera. Of course it was my fault for opening the door.

my panosonic dmc fz8 fell out the car door while on vacation. It did crack the LCD screen but I didn't care since that why I bought the thing. I love that camera.
