Thanks Frog and folks. I am starting to add a few shots to my gallery. Will be adding more over time.

    Re: Welcome!!

    Hello,

Just found this community and I like it, I'm looking forward to learn more about photography, it is a hobby which I truly enjoy.

First time I took any photos was with my Dad's camera in the 70's, 35 mm , all manual, I never got very good results with that camera. I also had the opportunity to help my Dad develop some B&W film from a Minox camera, just the negatives, prints were done at a shop.
After I finished college I got my own 35mm SLR, with automatic exposure and still manual focus, I did get a zoom for that camera 28-200. this equipment is still with me but no longer in use.

One thing abut film cameras which I never liked is having to take the film to be developed and get prints.

A few years later, when I got kids I gave a digital camera to my wife, she barely used it, but I started enjoying it very much, the ability to instantly see your picture makes all the difference.

Just recently I decided to get a DSLR

While I'm looking into continue to improve, one thing in particular that I have not tried more seriously is post processing.

here is a pic form this weekend

    I live in Guadalajara, México

    Thanks for reading

I don't know of any site that covers everything, but Wikipedia usually gives a general explanation of things. Here is the Zoom site.

    Re: Welcome!!

Hello. New to this forum, but certainly not to the online world nor to photography! I like to call my line of photographic pursuit "Wilderness Adventure Photography". I'm an outdoor photography generalist...that is, I'll take what nature gives me on any given day depending on conditions, lighting, location, and what the equipment I happen to have with me at the moment. So, I'm just as happy doing scenics, closeups, or wildlife portraits. You can view some of my work at my personal website.

On my most recent photo adventure, I had the misfortune of having my primary rig blown over by a freak gust of wind while standing atop a petrified sand dune in Snow Canyon State Park. Here's the last photo I took with that rig:

I've been shooting with Minolta bodies and Sigma APO lenses for 15 years. While the Minolta stuff has been great...especially the CCD-borne anti-shake technology in the 7D (and now inherited by the Sony Alpha gear)...there have been a number of small, niggling issues with which I've grown increasingly unhappy. I've been contemplating switching to Canon for some time, primarily because that's what my wife already has, so switching over provides a nice set of backup possibilities. With Minolta getting out of the business, and with my primary rig going down, I've decided it's time to part with the Minolta system rather than investing more money into it.

To be quite frank, I primarily joined to see if any of the Sony / Minolta crowd here might be interested in picking up my used pro-level gear. I know it's generally considered bad form to have your first post be a for sale ad, but hey, at least I'm being forthright and honest.

In any event, one of my other two passions in life are working on early 80s water-cooled Porsches. I've been involved in that community since 2004, and have purchased 11 cars since then (!). Fortunately, I have an understanding wife, two 2-car garages, and a big driveway. It's not as bad as it sounds, though...my two elder boys each drive one, I have one for me, one for my wife, and two projects in the work garage. The other cars were all parts donors or cars that I flipped. So I only have 5 parked at the house right now.
Here's a link to one of my monster projects, and a link to my CarDomain page with pix of my small collection. Here's a shot I took of my 928 in the Panamint Mountains (Death Valley National Park, CA) while driving it from California back to Michigan:

The third passion of mine is performing and composing on Acoustic Piano. I'm not formally trained, but I am the regular pianist and band director at my church, and I've also been involved in several recording projects over the years. I enjoy arranging, composing, recording and live performance. My most recent project was helping my best friend with a children's CD (Park Ranger Roy's Walkin' Through the Park), and prior to that, I released a Christmas CD, Simply Christmas. One really neat bit of convergence was that I was able to use my photography skills to provide artwork for several recording projects. Here are some samples:

The icicle on Simply Christmas was in my front yard, the shadowed piano was photographed in my living room, Park Ranger Roy playing at a campfire we setup in my back yard, and the Men of Grace scene I shot in Bryce Canyon National Park.

Now, if any body wants some pro-level Sigma gear for Minolta / Sony camera bodies at less than half retail, send me a PM

    Re: Welcome!!

Welcome, ideola. Had a look at your photos and you have some nice stuff.
I'm not a Minolta guy so can't help you there but we do have a live and thriving group of Sony/Minolta people here.
I got pretty tired reading all the stuff you do, so I think I'll need a morning nap now.
Oh..we also have many auto enthusiasts here and at least a couple of poets and several musicians.
You might also want to list your stuff in our free classifieds.
    Now for my nap!
