    Re: Week Before Christmas Flowers

Bill, I was going to say that there is a lot of noise in the BG for some reason. Then I pulled up the EXIF for a look and saw the thumbnail. Obviously, we haven't figured out what the problem is yet.

What size and file type is the original? Scanned from film, correct? What software are you using to resize it?

    TF

EDIT - Your 'Blue Heron' looks like a good resize. What was different there?

    Re: Week Before Christmas Flowers

    Hey Guys,

The images that have failed are from a Canon Powershot A470, 7.1 Mega Pixel, the image sizes are 3072 X 2304, in JPEG Format.

The software is Fastone Photo Resizer v2.9, settings on the last one were:

Resize: 800 X 600 Pixtels, Filter Lanczos3 (Default), Switch Width and Height to match long side, Preserve Aspect Ratio, Do not resize when original is smaller than new one.

Canvas: 800 X 600 Pixtels, Switch values if it is a portrait image.

    DPI: x axis = 72, y axis = 72

Crop: Not selected Rotate: Not selected Color Depth: Not selected Adjustments; Brightness, Contrast, Gamma, Saturation, Sharpness etc: Not selected

That is all I can tell you, thanks for trying to help.

    Re: Week Before Christmas Flowers

OK, I downloaded and played with it for a while.

Under the 'Advanced Options', choose only the 'Resize' tab. Do not use 'Canvas' or 'DPI'.

Check 'Resize Based on One Side' - this will make the longest side 800 regardless of orientation.

For 'Predefined Side' choose 'Long Side'

    '800' for 'Pixels'

These setting will get you the proper resolution.

To get a little better quality:

    'Output Format' > 'Settings'

    'Quality' to '95'

    'Color Subsampling' to 'Disabled'

Give this a try and let's see how it works.

    Paula,

This computer illiterate was getting pretty "darned" frustrated, but I should be used to that after the Callahan years. I still do not understand what I'm doing, but I am happy that it is working.

    BTW GO Big XII
