A way back.. 512mb CF was $1,599? HAHA

Well i just found this image I had taken 3 years ago or so, and even then it was out dated. I'm not sure of the age of the book. My guess is it is from 2000-2002.. Funny info!!

I've got a couple 512's laying around I'd sell you for half that! My first card was a 256mb that I bought for $165 in late '02. The other day I came across Lexar 133x 4gb cards for about $25 after rebate (click on the item to see the "real price", and there's a $35 rebate). And I'm not sure I need one, even for that price!

That's too funny. I can't think of anything off the top of my head that drops in price faster than digital-anything. Nature of digital I suppose - expensive to engineer something new, but easy to manufacture and improve later.

I remember updating computer equipment at work when the first generation Pentiums came out. I think they were around $4k. I seem to recall RAM was purchased 8MB at a time and they were around $250/each

    Good memories.

That is funny. Always interesting to look back and see how prices drop. Still got almost 200 pics on that card on that time though I bet.

I remember paying $75 to upgrade my ram on my first PC from 512K to 640K. This was just so I could use a larger font that came with the program. When ram dropped to $100 per megabyte, we thought that was a sweet deal.

Is this book sitting on a guitar case by chance? Didn't notice that the first time, I guess.

I bought a DSLR in '03 and at that time I wondered what I'd do with it on vacation. Buying a few gigs (like three or four) of CF cards would have cost more than a so-so laptop (which was also quite a bit more expensive than today). Of course newer cameras shoot bigger files but still, fifty bucks would keep you shooting for awhile. Unbelievable!

Not completely sure that it looks like a Fender Vintage Reissue ('52 Tele, '62 P-Bass, etc) but I'm not sure who else supplies cases like this with instruments. I have seen a few aftermarket tweed cases though. So - I'm not that good!

Maybe you guys (and gals?) are just too young. I remember paying $30 for a set of ten 5.25" floppies which only held 360 KB. I paid $1100 for my first hard drive: a 30 MB external. Better yet... I worked with a guy who had a Lisa (anyone remember those?) and he paid around $3000 for a 5 MB hard drive. But the one (from my experience) that takes the cake is a Warrant Officer I knew in the Army who had worked at a data processing center when they added 32 KB (KB, not MB) to an IBM 360 Mainframe at a cost of $1,000,000! Now, if gas prices would only drop like memory...
