    w.slayman

I am relatively new to computer postings, and hope I do not make a total fool of myself.

I am 65 years old and have been an amateur photographer since 1952 (age 8) when I got a Kodak Brownie for my birthday. I have also had a Kodak Retina, Ricoh Range Finder, Canon Range Finder, Minox 16 mm, Speed Graphic 4X5, Olympus Pen FT, Topcon SLR, Yashica Twin Lens Reflex, Canon AE1, and am on my 2nd and 3rd Canon A1s (The first burned in a house fire a year ago with all my photos, lenses, cameras, as well as clothing etc.) In the last year I have obrained 2 A1 Bodies and 12 assorted FD Lenses.

I split time between Pensacola, FL, USA and Jundiai, SP, Brazil, and love to photograph people and places, nature and urban areas. In March I will be going on a 3 month photo vacation to Brazil, including the Amazon, Pantanal, Foz do Iguacu, Sao Paulo, Brasila, Rio de Janeiro and many other locations.

I have noticed that some people have a hard time finding quality service at a reasonable price for their older (non digital) equipment. If anyone is interested I can recommend an Excellent One Man Shop, in Pensacola, FL.

Well I guess that is about it.

    Welcome, Bill!
I look forward to seeing some of your work and will keep a keen eye out for what you bring back from Brazil.
Real bummer about that fire, especially the pictures. The equipment can be replaced usually but the photos....sigh!
    Keep Shooting!

    Frog and Old Timer,

    Thanks for the welcome.

It has taken me 1 year to replace clothing, furniture, the house, and now most of my best (Canon A1) equipment. However I have just started to build a new photo collection, of course I will never be able to replace 57 years of photos, and slides. At the time of the fire I was considering buying a good scanner and putting my photos on CD, but never got around to it. In retrospect I was pretty foolish, especially since I had plenty of room in my safety deposit box. Take notice and protect your photos, my house was only 8 years old.

When I get back from Brazil in June 2010 I should have a few photos to scan and then post.

I use FILM because this Old Man is too old to learn new tricks hahahahaha besides Real Photographers use FILM. hahahahahaha

    Talking Re: w.slayman

Hi Bill. welcome to the forum. I am about your age and shot film for about 40+ years. I converted over to digital a few years ago and would never go back  . The instant gratification of seeing your images when you shoot them and the fact that, if you don't like it, you can reshoot it. Now, the computer processing can be something else :mad2: . Fortunately, I worked with computers for a lot of years before I retired , so they don't really scare me that much as if I had never worked with them, but with some of the rather easy to use editing programs around today, processing is fairly straightforward and besides, it gives a new edge to my desire to try and be a bit creative .

If I can do it, then you are never to old to learn new tricks  ...Just thought I would try and provide a little encouragement :7:

    Cheers,

    WesternGuy
