    The ultimate ARGHHH!!!!!

I picked up the new D70, SB800 and lens, came home, cooked dinner, did dishes, did homework with my 8 year old, switched off to my 14 year old and Science, switched back to the 8 year old for spelling and science review. read to her and got her into bed at 8:30. Back to the 14 year old to review and help edit a piece for social studies for two hours. I just sat down, pulled the batteries out of the charger, slowly opened the box, put together the body and lens and lit up that power button. Then I realized that I left the CF and micro drives on the desk in my classroom. ARRRGHHHHHHH!!!!!! I'll have to wait till morning to play. Just like having a brand new fat boy custom, an open road, no cops in the way and no gas in the tank. Doom on me.

You're right. That is the ultimate AARGH. I'd be driving back to the office right about now if it were me. You have serious intestinal fortitude and discipline to hold off that long, do your parental duties before sitting down to play with the new toy. btw, congratulations on the new camera

Thanks. I'll be testing it out all day on my students. It's nice to have 180 semi-willing test subjects to shoot on a daily basis. Probably a 1 day DITLO on high school life.

    Re: The ultimate ARGHHH!!!!!

I ended up knocking off about 85 shots today between my arrival on campus at 6:30 AM and leaving after the varsity football game after 6:00. The school I teach at is very private with a lot of kids whose parents don't want their pictures on the web, so I can't post anything without a release. I will say that I was very impressed. I shot on Aperture or shutter priority with and without the SB800 on a quick flip throughout the day. It handled varied lighting, from early morning shaded courtyard with flash fill, to inside our black walled classroom/studio and even did great in the late afternoon sun of the football game I'll probably stick with either the spot or center weighted metering most of the time. I do like the autofocus, it is quick, even with my tokina 80-200 / 2.8 ATX PRO II. That thing is heavy enough to hammer nails with. The polycarb skin can be a little spooky, but as anyone who knows about the Glock line of firearms can vouch, its pretty darn strong. I'll post a few shots of various thingees this weekend. The new toy definitely satisifies what my kids call the "Uber Dork" in me.
