Interesting perspective from the plane. I am fortunate my job allows me to have the camera in my hands when seeing from that perspective.

I put the camera in continuous shoot mod, put a ruber band around the shutter button. It's that easy!

A firefighter, not like Tyson though, I don't really get very near structures very often. I am usually 200-3000' above it all. I would much rather have it that way. Being a pilot I really don't have to deal with the actual fire, I admire those in the trenches.

All related to fire fighting, but no fire in these. I work for the Alaska Smokejumpers, you know, crazy guys that jump out of airplanes to fight fires. Let's just say that I take off full all of the time, and rarely land full...

Tyson L. Sparks, Airborne- I'm into electric R.C. planes also.
Continous shot! How long was the flight? Hehehe. One of...how many? How fast does it shoot? during flight ?
Must say I admire the custom design, the far superior lense(than a toy camera) I feel it produced good results.
I have a camera plane with a toy camera onboard.A ducted fan 737 AWAC with a camera in the radome disk(estes planes) It uses a mirror to to project an image onto the lense
This camera is remote fired by a button the transmitter, the usb memory is good for 32 shots per flight. I'll have to fire it up.

    EOSThree,
Thanks for posting those Excellent shots. Alaska is stunning. The smoke jumper image / Inside the chopper is prime time. Simply outstanding  Bigtime. IMHO.

Was this a tough shot? Did you lean into the harness? You were strapped in...right? ha! Tripod? Curious.
I really like that perspective, great timing. That image in my opinion is superb!

    3 planes.that's it! NO more... I have a friend with 18 planes.Now that's pushin'.

A Hobbyzone supercub, A Sukoi SU-27 4 channel twin ducted fan jet , and... one 737 twin ducted fan jet AWAC camera plane.
Alot of fun. Great thread !!!! Thanks

    Rick

Thanks for the kind words, I think you are referring to the cargo chutes photo. That is a cargo drop on a fire near Ambler Alaska. First of all it's not a chopper, it's a Casa 212, kind of like a mini C130, the airplane in my Avatar. The other pilot was flying the plane and I turned around and shot that one with my S2 at around the equivalent of 170mm. We were "kicking" cargo to supply the jumpers on the ground. All of the gear they use to fight the fire as well as food and water is dropped from the plane.
I was about 18 feet away from the open door, and still mostly in my seat. It's taken quite a few shots to get the timing down for a shot like that, I get something similar about 2 or 3 times a season, with lot's of near misses. It's handheld, with the built in flash turned all of the way up to light as much of the kickers(the guys in back throwing the cargo out)as possible. I asked the flying pilot to fly a straight line for an extra second or two after the kick which allowed for me to get the open chutes in the frame. The OOF thing you see flying on the tether to the left is the "D" bag which stays attached to the airplane and holds the folded chute until it deploys.

Re: Try to photograph landscapes like this!!!!

I use a one gig card, the camera is a Pentax Optio S40 and I have a S50. I was so serious about low level aerial photography I was going to start a buisness. Then the FAA steped in and banned all commercial AP from unmaned aerial vehicles. It is BS! I was getting $75 to $100 for a residential shoot! People love low level AP. I get a better angle than the big planes. On a clear sunny day I can shoot a better picture than a full size fly by. It take a shot about 1 every second or 2 a normal flight assignment takes 20 mins.

Hey EOS, I'm a pilot down in Utah. I'm working on my commercial right now and should finish the flight ops degree in a year.... or so. I'd like to eventually make it up to Alaska for a while. What kind of times are you guys looking for for new hires? Probably not low, but just out of curiosity.
