    Toot Your Horn Thread

As posted in the "Just Braggin" thread, Chunk has won first prizes at the county fair. Just out of curiosity, how many of you other members have won contests?
Feel free to "Toot Your Horn".

It looks like I get to be the one who toots his own horn first

    With this photo

    I won

this bike in a photo contest on MTBR.com. I'm sure they'll be glad to know it gets used 4-5 times a week, and my other bike is jealous because it doesn't get used as often.

I won second prize at the fair for a water lily. I got like $7 for it. There were a few other smaller prizes, but the lily is what stands out in my memory. I'll probably enter again this year.

You are long overdue Larry, or do you figure others wouldn't have a chance if you enter. Your work is better than most I've seen in any shows around here.

Thanks, Chunk. I didn't enter last year so I'll have a job sorting though all my shots and deciding what, if any, are worthy. It is very intimidating because there are some really good photographers entering, but very educational since they let you attend the judging and listen to the judges - who will stop and explain things and answer questions. I'm sure as the time draws nearer I'll be asking advice!

JETA I think you more than have the basics down. You just need to branch out a bit and spread your wings. Your ready to soar with the eagles. Your images have improved by leaps and bounds over the last year. Go for it girl.

This first photo took first place on Phototakers.com in 2004, and with it I won a 258MB Scandisk CF card.

The second photo placed as Finalist on betterphoto.com in 2005, but I didn't win anything. Really wanted 2nd place so as to get the camera bag, but it just wasn't meant to be for this contest.

Thanks OT. You ARE sweet. See!

I guess when I look at where I was when I joined a year ago and where I am today I should be happy with that improvement. I get frustrated because I do not have the time I'd like to spend learning more.

Crikey I have 2 finalists on betterphoto.com and many, many POTD's/finalists on a couple of other sites! Too numerous to mention. But here are my place winners.

"Beach" won 1st place on one website and Best-of-Category on another.

"Buttercup" won 2nd place on a website too.

These are free websites so no prizes were won. (Do they still count as winners?)

I have never entered any of my photos in a contest, but I did have a "Photo of the Day" on the PR home page last summer. This is the pic.

The pic below is the current "Photo of the Week" in the gallery.

Yes, you were there, Brian!! That Yosemite outing was so much fun I'm hoping it can be repeated someday but with more forum members.
