    Toad in the road

Jakarta flooded, today, could not open the taxi window to get a shot off, rain too heavy...:mad2: .
Came home and escorted this (elderly ?) gentleman across the road,to his pond.

That's some toad! How big is it?

p.s. toad's live on land except for breeding and at birth. Frog's live in water.

    Re: Toad in the road

Toads spend much of their adult life in water too! And, they love heavy rains or flooding - it brings them out in droves. I've had night driving days in heavy rain where the road is PAVED with toads. (and frogs too)

Looks to me like he was out enjoying some snacks and the weather.

Do you think flashing away harms them at all ?

I was going to take part in the pole, but then I noticed 'Just stand still, and hope she doesn't notice me' was not an option.

    Re: Toad in the road

I don't think the flash hurts them - it certainly isn't any brighter than the sun! probably gives them those green floaties for a while though

The preflash does sometimes cause the nictitating membrane to cover the eye, which is what you see here. It looks a bit like a cataract. The only real advice I have to avoid that is to shoot without flash, although it does reduce the likelihood if you increase the brightness - use a flashlight or your headlights to force him to adjust to brighter conditions. Sometimes the AF assist is an annoying strobe, so manual focusing might help too.

I understand, that was very nice of you. I was trying to interject a little humor. Like a frog that stood out that much could possibly get away without being noticed.
