Time Lapse with my XTi -- Fun stuff

    A Drive in a Volvo

EOS 400D Time Lapse Test Drive from The Bailey on Vimeo.
Poor perspective, next time I'll lower the camera a bit.
Also, next time it'll be in high def.

    -Canon EOS 400D (XTi)
    -Sigma 10-20mm @ 10mm
-Texas Instruments TI89 Titanium w/ Intervolometer Program plugged into the wired remote jack.
-2979 photos @ ~1 second inverval till it got darker and the exposure time got longer, that's why I appear to go faster. Combined using Makeavi @ 15fps

and in case anyone's curious, I calculated my gas mileage while waiting for the touchless car wash and got 25mpg with snow tires and I tend to drive "spiritedly"

Nice! I would love to make one of those videos. Is the time lapse capability a feature of your camera, or did you do something special?

EDIT: I just read the details that you posted with the video.

Doesn't everyone that graduated high school after 1994 have one of these TI calculators hanging around?

I just found a tutorial on how to set up the calculator: http://www.instructables.com/id/Turn...-Intervalomet/

Now, what did you use to mount your camera in your car? I REALLY want to do this while driving through one of the many canyons near where I live.

    What were your exposure settings?

    I've added another video

    Jim,

I triple-seatbelted a cheap, full-size tripod in the back seat of my car.

    Exposure settings:
--Aperture priority (manual is no good because the light changes as it gets darker outside)
--spot metering to a spot in my car that is unaffected by headlights or other extremes.
--Turned off automatic picture review and turned off LCD
--Based on my latest experiment, I've found that a low ISO and small aperture is good in the daytime, while a high ISO and large aperture will be good for night driving. Experiment with your exposure settings.
--Even at night with long exposures, I set the interval on my calculator to 1 fps and then grossly overestimated the amount of pictures, either way, the interval is going to be determined by the camera since it doesn't give feedback to the remote. (IE, the calculator)

Open this in an external Vimeo window for HD

I used the bubble level in this one...I wouldnt recommend doing that, I found that it's better to eyeball it since when you're sitting in the car adjusting the level, you compress the suspension slightly on that side...tiz better to level it with the car than the earth IMO

Be sure to save it in HD (Option built into Vista's Windows Movie Maker, also doable in Windows Movie maker with some additional profiles), post it to Vimeo, and share here!

Will do! I just need to find the cable that connects the calculator to the camera.

I like the "Light Speed" effect at night, Turbo Volvo!

Re: Time Lapse with my XTi -- Fun stuff

Here is my first attempt, nothing fancy, just playing around. I have a few ideas of how this could be a lot of fun with different applications.

Settings: JPEG 2MP, f/8, aperture priority, frames firing every 3 seconds or so.

Video set at 15fps, 1079 frames (I think).
