    They should...

...put a place on my camera body or my flash to put that little hotshoe cover instead of my pocket.
What do you think they should do?

bring back the red led AF beam for DSLRs like they were on my old film SLRs. I hate the pop up flash for AF assist so much that I disabled it.

    Re: They should...

put RAW capture in all digital cameras. Put at least a flash accessory port in all digital cameras. put decent AF firmware in digital P&S cameras. put a shutter release cable port in all digital cameras.

and another thing, stop producing so many bottom end P&S cameras that are all basicly takes on the same camera - the constant micro-upgrades are pretty rediculous. A big upgrade is a good thing, but a larger screen and a 1 mp improvement are not all that exciting to merit a whole new model. Just off the top of my head Sony has the T line, the P line, and the N line. Why so many?? why not just have one line that covers all the bases? People who buy those cameras want some optical zoom, a lot of megapixels, a micro sized camera, and a great big LCD. Add bells and whistles, and release a new model every year. done. It's just a "girls night out" camera, it really shouldn't be complicated. In fact, it should be as simple to choose as possible - by and large the people who buy that kind of camera don't want to be troubled with the finer aspects of photography.

But isn't it wonderful to have choices??

While I must certainly agree with the bulk of your observations Erik, I take exception to your last comment, as will some other users of these ''girls night out'' cameras you refer to.
I find myself getting back into the finer aspects of photography because of the quality, features, convenience and economy that is available on some of the newer sub compact P&S digital cameras !

No-- They should... outlaw ALL cameras! Not only can real artists mix their own subtle pastel shades of tempora and oils, they can also tan and stretch their own lamb skin canvas over hand carved oak frames. That's why I am not an artist...
