    tail dragger

Beautifully flown off the runway, a nice smooth take-off.
But I wish I'd used a faster shutter speed to catch the propeller

Great shot, but wrong on the shutter speed, you don't want to freeze the prop.

    Prop blur is king.

But I want to see the prop.
Not freeze it I agree, have a blur about two blade widths.
Here the blur is so great all you can see is the red tip blur and the blurred logo if you look hard enough.

No problem. For us aviation photogs, the more blur the better, we know the prop is there, even if we can't see it.

I agree with adamsti on the prop blur. The more the better. It's just more elegant with lots of prop blur. The best are the shots that manage to get a full rotation of the blades.

But Tim, in your first photo of the bear you have just the amount of prop blur I like !

Yeah I know, but I think that was shot at 1/100, or 1/80. Don't have an EXIF viewer at work. When they idle, the prop is not moving very fast. When they run the motors up I go for full circles like this.

I just checked, the sunrise shot was 1/100, the shot above is 1/40.

I see, that works on a sunny day - that's about 1 in 365 here in the UK
As you can see all my pictures from Goodwood were grey sky, grey day, flat light.
The prop just vanishes altogether, might as well be a jet

Paul, I think you're right - not having done much of this myself. The shot in sunlight with the prop blurred looks great because you can still see it.
