    Swimming with the Sun Rays

    Hi all,

I hope you don't mind if I share some of my more favorite shots while temporarily relocated here in the Yucatan. That's my son swimming in a cenote.

For those who don't know what that is, the Yucatan is a slightly raised limestone plateau. It is completely flat -- not much above sea level. Most rivers are under-ground. There are many caves that open down to the river. This is one of a good number located around Valladolid. The water is just as refreshing as it looks!

    Cheers,
    Tim

    (1) The way down
    (2) The whole family (minus the shooter)

Cool pics, tim. Must be nice being down there with nice weather. I only have one question; what the &^%!!@ is that hanging down in the second pic? Would that be tree roots?

Nice pics Tim. And yes you do have us all very jealous. Next time you could let us all know when you plan a trip and maybe we could get group rates.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

    Very Cool

That looks very cool and it's a great location for photos. I'm considering a little vacation to Belize. I think they have similar geology? I'd love to take pictures in this kind of environment.

By the way, why are you in Mexico? Is it for work?

    Thanks for the comments guys...

srobb, Them things are roots from a tree above. It is totally wild. BTW, are you also on MTBR.com? I recognize the handle (maybe it's similar).

OT, thanks. We'll leave a light on for you. Come down whenever you like.

PJ, Belize will have similar Mayan history. However, the language is English. And, I think, there are mountain areas. The Yucatan is 100% flat. If you see a hill, it is an uncovered Mayan pyramid. It's a fun place to shoot.

We're down here because my wife (who is a pediatrician) was interested in a sabbatical. She is volunteering here in town and will also be traveling to the local pueblos. Getting better at Spanish will help here help her patients more back home. Me, I am fortunate that my boss will let me telecommute from down here.

The big thing is, though, is that we wanted our kids to live elsewhere. We want them to respect other value systems. We want them to be (somewhat) bilingual. We want them to appreciate all they have back home. So for this, it's ok to miss my bike for half a year.

    Cheers,
    Tim

What a great opportunity! Based on all those wires Telecommuting hopefully won't be a problem! Nice pics - you captured the feel of the area and made us all jealous.

OS...I like your attitude about raising your children. I think they are very lucky to have parents such as you and your wife!!! I would love to do a little more travelling, but it will have to wait many years. I have been lucky to be able to have seen and lived many places. My wife on the other hand has not really travelled anywhere. I have managed to get her to a few places, but would like to be able to travel more extensively. Your pics really make me want to travel down to where you are!!! Especially the swimming ones!!! hehe...don't know if I could get the wife in there, tho'. hahaha...
    Have lots of fun!!!!

Actually, I was hoping that's what they were, tim. Would not want to think of anything else that looked that creepy. ;)

I'm afraid that may be someone else on mtbr. If you look up scary in the dictionary, the picture beside it will be me on a moutnain bike. ;) I love riding bikes, but just don't think doing something like that would be good for the old body now. Too many things wrong with it now because of doing crazy things like that.

I applaud you and your wife both; not many parents today will have the nerve to raise their kids like that. I think it's a wonderful idea and hopefully the whole family will come away from this trip with a renewed perspective on life and those we share it with.
