Strange Bush

I was driving around yesterday and something caught the corner of my eye.

There in the front yard of a house was the strangest bush. It was short and squat
but stood about 4' tall. The whole thing was the darker color (see photo) except
for a "new growth" spurt. It was a beautiful red.

I had to take a shot and share it with you.



It just struck me as unusual and pretty.

Nope that is not "ground cover" in the pic ... it really is a bush.

Any comments appreciated.

Someone here must know what it is.
It is rather pretty.

Burn a bit of it and see if it has a familiar odor...

acer palmatum, some cutleaf variety. Japanese maple, for short. They are beautiful trees.

I hoped someone would recognise it.
Now I can go back and tell the people who own the house. They didn't know
what is was ... said that it was there when they bought the house.
