    star trails & Mt. Rainier

Today was a beautiful day in Washington! The sun was out all day and after church and lunch I took about an hour to shoot a few scenes. Nothing fantastic but it felt good to get out. The first shot was done tonight. The stars were out clear as crystal and I set up my camera outside the house for a long exposure at f/5.6. The fog started rolling in and so after 21 minutes (I had hoped for an hour long shot) I stopped the exposure just to be safe. But turns out I could have gone a lot longer as the fog didn't come in as much as I thought it would. The other pics are of Mt. Rainier from the Jackson Highway, converted to black in white since the time of day did not afford great color in the sky. One of these days I'll make a special trip to either Mt. Rainier or Mt. St. Helens for some better photos.

Beautiful images Ray. Kind of looks like you Washington guys could have a great gathering without anyone traveling too far.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

    Thanks folks!

Yes Frog, I believe we could probably make a mini-photogathering out of a Mt. Rainier trip.

I went back out last night and found the North Star Polaris. This was shot at f/5.6 @ 30 minutes. It was too cold to stay out another 1/2 hour, lol. But it's a clear day again today so I'll try for my hour long exposure tonight.

Thanks Lori. Wait till you see the hour long exposure. The star trails should form a complete circle.

    Hey Ray,

I like the shot of Orion. What camera, lens, and film did you use?

The other shots are nice too, but you know I have thing about astrophotography!

Thanks Robert. I used my Canon XTi & Sigma 18-50 wide angle lens. It was too chilly last night for me to sit out there for an hour last night, but I'll have another chance tonight as the skies were clear for the third day in a row!

Fantastic shots Ray! I love the first one, the color of the sky against the green trees, but they're all excellent shots.

Thanks Brad & JETA. My hour long exposure did not work out so well last night. After taking the exposure the stupid battery died before the camera wrote all the info to the camera card! Aaargh!
