    Sports Day Pictures :o)

    "The Skipping Race"
My daughter was laughing in EVERY race!

"One Wellington Boot and a Space Hopper Race?!"
Well, this was a new one on me lol. My daughter thoroughly enjoyed it!!!

    "The Running Race".
Look at the determination and enjoyment of taking part on his face!

"The Egg and Spoon Race" Nursery school style.
Using a sieve and a tennis ball lol.

It's true what they say y'know and it's evident in my kids faces, "It's not the winning, it's the taking part that counts."

I thoroughly enjoyed shooting my kids sports days this year!
That 70-200 lens made a BIG difference to the shots I got. I was sitting on the ground at the finishing lines haha

Beautifully done Alison. You captured some great expressions with your kids, as you always do. The 70-200 is wonderful, isn't it?!

Yes it is! I did feel a little uncomfortable getting my gear out at first because all the other parents had their little P&S pouches hanging on their wrists.
That lens sticks out like a sore thumb! LOL

I'm pleased no-one harrassed me about taking pictures because I managed to make the teachers slideshows of the pictures I got, as leaving presents

Haha, I always think the same thing. I've shot a few friends soccer games and have had a number of people come up and ask what paper I was shooting for! Haha

Alison, what great images of your childrens sports day, so full of energy. Truly wonderful memories to keep.

I know just how you feel, I have that lens too. The first time I used it in public was at a show jumping event. I was taking shots of my daughter-in-law's sister when a chap came up to me and said ( are you the official photographer ) I felt so embarrassed as I was still getting to grips with it.

Beautiful shots, Alison. I thoroughly enjoyed looking at them.

You're feeling self-conscious about the lens reminded me of one time when I was in NY at Bryant Park with my XTi and one of my longer lenses. There was a gentleman dressed up like a bride sitting on the edge of the fountain with both feet in the water - and a big smile on his face. We chatted for a minute and I asked him if I could take a picture of him. He said "yes - just one - for a price." I said okay, I'll be happy to give you a couple of dollars. He said "hey lady, by the looks of that camera, you could at least give me a twenty." Well, we compromised and I gave him a $5.

Thanks for posting these Alison - their joyful faces made my day!

I think I would have said, "That is where all my money has gone! On the lens".
You paid him?! He should have paid you for such an excellent picture! haha

I'm glad I don't have to pay my kids! At £2.50 each that would cost me £20 a time!

Yes, I gave him a little money, but I didn't consider it "paying him" because he was a street person with some problems and looked like he needed a meal. I did it because I thought he might need some help. I guess I should have explained why I gave him money since I don't usually give out money to people when I do street photography. Actually, it made him feel good too. That in itself was worth $5.

The first shot is fabulous. The expression mixed with the black and white makes for a real keeper.
