    Some Holga macro photographs....

I bet you never thought you'd think that a Holga could do "macro", well guess what...
Yes it's not true macro, but for a Holga it's pretty close....
There are two kits of snap on lens being made for Holgas, the first kits is the "close up" kit which consists of lens in the 120, 250 and 500mm lengths, the "macro" kit, consists of two lens in the 60 and 30mm lengths.
The first one, of a stone fly shuck was done with the 30mm lens:

I think this one was done with the 120mm, but I don't remember.

    Thanks for looking...

I like the fishhook one a lot. The other one is a little too hard to distinguish, I think. It's cool you've found a new way to expand your Holga work, Brian. And I'm with Megan on the fishing photos - I think you've really found a passionate focus for your Holga and the overall strength of your work is really benefiting.

Please take a picture of your Holga macro rig and add it to this post!

    Cool shots, Brian!

Now, do you mind explaining how the heck you get Holga macro shots in focus? It's hard enough at normal distances!

Will do John and Paul(that sounds like a rather famous duo, doesn't it?)..
It took me a while to dial it in, but it's really quite simple.
    Thanks for the comments everyone!

    Re: Some Holga macro photographs....

As you can imagine, it's really quite a simple set up.
The lens snap on, and you set the focusing to infinity, the mountain icon.

My initial attempts with these lens was to attach a small tape measure to the camera with velcro but because I wasn't getting any of my subject in the frame at all, so I needed to come up with something else.

At the closest distances composing becomes a real challenge, because you can't see what is from the lens, so I figured, as long as I can get the distance right and I could find a way to put the subject in front of the lens I'll be OK.
So I thought I'd tie a piece of string around the lens barrel, so I could both measure the distance of the subject and get the subject in front of the lens.

I taped a piece of wax paper to the back of the open camera and used the "bulb" setting so I could see through the lens and measure out the length of each lens.

This what the string looks like on the camera, the pieces of duct tape correspond to the different distances of each lens, and each lens has the same color of tape on it.

    Here are all five lens:

There you go, it's that simple!

Wonderful explanation and great pics. I certainly admire what you are doing with a very simple piece of equipment.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

What is it they say, Genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration or something like That? You seem to have covered both with the photos and the explanation!

Personally I like the 'fly'. Not only Holga-esque but has a bit of the Lens Baby thing going too!

You have made fly fishing intriguing, though I'll not be in a creek with waders any time soon!

Always looking forward to you latest.
