    Should I Sell My Film?

I'm moving, haven't shot any film in a couple of years, and still have a big stash of slide film in my fridge. I'm thinking it's time to part with it. What do you think? Is it time to let go?

Hey, PJ, you could just send it to me. I'll put it to good use in my camera.

...I always thought it would super cool to be able to buy "exposed" film. IOW, film that has been exposed (properly), just not processed yet. You then process it yourself, and see (hopefully with great delight) what kind of pictures you get. As they say, "a surprise in every box!".

    Ok, whatever...

If it were me, I'd hang on to the film. You know THE PULSE is coming eventually, and all electronics, including digital cameras, will be fried.

The only cameras that wll work will be older manual film ones. Now, when that time comes, do you want to have to pay $1000 for a roll of film just to take a freakin' picture?

I am taking it though that all of this film is 35mm?
Do you have any 120? It doesn't have to be within its date...

Hey, Brian, maybe he has both and we can split it. You take the 120 and I'll take the 35mm.

Come on, PJ, we both LOVE FILM!!!!!!

ARE YOU KIDDING? It's going to be a collector's item some day! Put it in a safe, secure, preferably air-tight and climate-controlled storage facility until it becomes rare and appreciates in value. Then you can pay for your kid's college tuition with it.

Or... send it to me or someone else who LOVES FILM!

Brian and Ken, we should start a Film Lovers club here on pr.com

Re: Should I Sell My Film?

Two weeks ago I sold my film stash on ebay - worked out to about a buck and a half a roll, mostly b&w stuff that was left.

If I didn't have to re-arrange my sock drawer I'd be glad to help you move. I think Sebastian's free though.

Hey, I have 8 track tapes of Photo-Johns first words. I used 8 track so I would have the highest fidelity, longest life, et cetera recording possible. Now I'm trying to find something that will play them so I can find out what words of wisdom he offered. I also have a film camera, and I can use some of that film. Is this revealing something about me or what?

    Vinyl Is The Best

Any audiophile will tell you that vinyl is still the best. And it's making a comeback! Musicians who really appreciate quality are starting to make vinyl albums available again. If you doubt, try listening to vinyl and CD copies of the same music, back-to-back. You will be amazed at the difference. Personally, I try to avoid making that comparison. Because it always makes me think I need a $10k turntable

I'm not sure the Muppet Movie soundtrack will benefit from being on vinyl, though.

    That's funny!

As for me, I have VHS tapes of my kids, and 8mm tapes, and Mini DV tapes, and now DVDs -- and my oldest is 11 years old.

You obviously haven't listened to the Muppets soundtrack.

I agree with you on the vinyl v. digital thing. A friend of mine put it this way to me years ago and it's stuck with me ever since: CD's create a WALL of sound. Technically perfect, with no depth. Records, though technically flawed, have DEPTH. There's a whole other level to the music with them that you're missing with CD's.

Ya see there, analog beats digital in every regard not just photography

For those who don't know you are kidding... Every double blind test I've ever seen show that people can't tell the difference. Unless, of course, the clicks, pops, compressed dynamic range, and hiss are overwhelming! The same thing goes for tube and transistor amps, A, B, AB amp designs, etc.

I do wish that I had not given away my original Empire super-duper turntable, the one with the liquid suspension. I've seen them go for a large Sum o' Bucks these days. I wonder how my old Phase Linear Autocorrelator would do on eBay, assuming I know where its stashed?
