    Unhappy She probably didn't survive

This morning I hit my 2nd deer in my life. The first one was on the 5th of this month. He got away with probably a few bruises, but the one today was hurt bad. I swerved to miss her fawn but didn't have enough room to miss her. I caught her with my right light and fender. It didn't do much damage to my car and I barely felt the hit, but I probably ran over her hind legs and the impact probably broke her hind quarter as she was dragging herself into the thicket. :cryin: :cryin: :cryin: The glass from headlamp was probably embedded in her hindquarter because there was none on the roadway anywhere. I called the sheriff and he was looking for her when I left. Hopefully he found her quickly!!!
Here's todays damage...the only good thing is that about 3 days ago, I had lowered my deductible to $50.00 because the other deer cost my $500.00 and I couldn't afford to get it fixed until this paycheck. It's been almost a month since I hit the first one.
Anyway, Kim was at home...I'm OK and hopefully the fawn is old enough to make it on it's own.

I've never hit a deer but I imagine it must be a traumatic thing. I'm sorry this has happened to you twice in such a short time.

Hope you called your game department or animal control.
They can do a lot of damage and its always a shame when it happens.

I have had several close calls on the motorcycle.I now have a " whistler " mounted between the fork tubes. It emits an ultra-high frequency pitch that will warn all types of animals that you are approaching.Glad you didn't crash.
b.t.w.It's less than $15.00, it works.

Oooh, I'm so sorry about your deer encounter today. I know it's a traumatic experience hurting or killing an animal with your vehicle. "It happens all the time" to people sure doesn't make it any less sad when it happens to you, right?

Coming home from the Buffalo area, on the last leg of a 9+ hour trip and mad-tired, this little white fluffy dog shot out of the woods and I didn't even have time to *think* about hitting the breaks. Ran him straight over, kerplunk all the way. No chance he survived that one, I didn't even look back. I was super upset, but I was more mad at the owners who let that little guy get out onto the main drag at 3am, ya know?! I felt really horrible for a long time over that one. Did nothing to my car, I was just a bit heartbroken.

    Re: She probably didn't survive

Thanx all...and Frog...yes, I called the Sheriff's dept. He was going to hunt her down. That's the procedure here in WI. SW...Both of my accidents were low speed also...hehe...to have a shop do both of my fenders is going to be around $3600 US. Out of pocket is going to be $550. But, thats about what it would cost me to do it myself with all the parts needed such as headlamp assembly, 2 fenders/skirts, front bumper and misc. hardware!!! So...let the insurance take care of it!!! hehe

I'm not a hunter and I hate running over animals, but it is getting to be a full time thing lately, especially racoons. So far this year I've hit probably 25 coons, 3 skunks, 1 cat, numerous birds incl. 2 owls or hawks and 2 deer. We won't count the almost 100 near misses of cattle, sheep, geese, ducks, coons, skunks, rabbits, cats, foxes, wolves, mice, ferrets, birds, and sundry other wildlife that lurks around every corner and over ever hill!!!! sheeesh!!! And sometimes, thats right here in town!!!! Oh, I almost forgot....SQUIRRELS!!!! They've been lucky...SO FAR!!!
Oh well...I used to beat myself up over it and still do a bit, but now I also cuss them out for not getting out of the way!!! I guess it's my way of not beating myself up so much!!!
Well...here's knocking on wood that July ends quickly and all this bad luck of hitting animals, tornadoes coming close, hailstorms, heavy rains, etc...all end with the end of the month!!!!!
You all drive save and keep a sharp eye out!!!

    Fyi

More deer are killed by cars than by hunters!

    It's sad, but true.
