    Setting Prices for Photos...

On Wednesday night while I was shooting a women's soccer game for my college newspaper, the Athletic Director approached me and said he was looking to get two photos of each in-sport season to display in his office. He said he was willing to pay for them.

So what should I charge? He said he wants two 11x14's of each sport for a total of 12 photographs in all.

I generally have a set price for all prints of each size. 11x14's are set at $60AUS each. I often discount the prints as I see fit but if these are for a long term purpose (advertising) then I'd be inclined to leave it at that price. Not sure how US photographers price theirs

Pricing is a tricky thing. Cost is the first thing you need to determine... what will it cost you to get them printed? How much profit do you need to make? Do they have to be framed?
Just some things to consider....oh, and gas prices? you had to travel to game, back home, then to get them printed etc....

Thank you, Tink and JS, for your advice.

I was thinking about setting the price for the photos somewhere between $45 and $60 USD. Does that sound like too much?

Nope not to me the seller hehe. I would set the price for what you would think somebody might want to buy it at. Also this is not a stock photo you find in the stores in a frame that anybody will find. This is something different and shows off your skills and such which might translate into higher costs. Also you have to decide if you want to sell them to get your name out there or help with some income. A fellow photographer i know sells his from 25 for smaller sizes up to 100 for larger prints he always frames them up on matting boards. I have not sold any of my photos as of yet by the way hehe. Good luck and let everybody know how you did.

Nope doesn't sound too high to me. If it were me, I'd be figuring everything involved into the cost, time, expenses, start to finish.

To that end I use Quickbook Pro for billing purposes. It's a pain to set up for photography but it can be done. I also use customer manger from Intuit that tracks the customers. I have all of them from day one in there.... bummer though when a drive crashes and I have to revert to backups...argh I want a crash proof computer!!!
