Question Sean Dempsey....anyone else with 17-40 lens

Just curious - what do you think of this lens? I haven't taken it off my camera since I got it about 6 weeks ago. Of course, I haven't done a lot of shooting lately either, but it's a great all-around-lens. I thought my 28-135 was a nice lens, but there is no comparison in the quality of the images. I've heard that some people think it is soft, but I get really sharp images with great color (handheld) and I have a slight camera shake problem. It's one of my favorites. I was just curious about the experience that people around here have had.

    Thanks.

Mine is great, it's my least used lens, but it is totally sweet. I haven't had a need for like the 16-35 f/2.8. I should really start using it more, but most of the time I am out looking for birds and wildlife... maybe I'll spend a weekend just using the 17-40.

I certainly enjoy mine and I get alot more sharp than out of focus shots. I use it quite often as a walk around lens. The wide does great here in the city.

Mine rocks. Use it all the time. No softness here. It does seem to get softer around 40mm WIDE OPEN, but it's not unacceptable. At 17mm it's really crisp.

    Talking Thanks for the responses......

I appreciate the responses/replies. I had checked out many reviews all over before (and some after) I got the lens. I'm surprised at all the "negatives" as I've been SO HAPPY with it - it's one of my favorite lenses. Don't misunderstand - there are a lot of positives too. I've concluded that the people who don't like it either have a bad lens or just don't know how to use it.

    Canon 17-40 F4 L

    Hey ya'll!

I really like mine! It has 'saved the day' more than once for me. I have photographed two small weddings lately in which a wide angle was a must because of limited space. It was completely worth the money for me! It works just fine with my 10D.

The 17mm is great, I can't wait to get to Wyoming this summer for some landscape shots. The build is fairly solid, and it is sharp! The all-time manual focusing has helped me out several times as well.

The big white L lenses can intimidate a few. Ok, sometimes that is good, but for candids at weddings, the smaller black lenses look good, and I can sneak around a bit more. The big whitey's are screaming for attention!

Every photographer should have a least one good wide angle in their bag.

    Cool Hey Cowgirl!

    Hi Kathy,
I'm always glad to see you around here! And I love it when you post your photos. You have a unique gift in shooting weddings! Very creative with your images, framing, etc. And I love your style.

I actually forgot you have this lens. I find it one awesome lens and it's on my camera all the time now. I get very little time for shooting these days, so it's mostly street shots - and this is great.

    Cool Hi Gene

How are you? I'm already looking forward to your next trip to NYC with Penny.......whenever that will be.

Nice image. Yes, I too love this lens. I've heard some complaints of softness at both ends. This isn't my experience - and it looks like your's is sharp too!

Have a great day, Gene and thanks for posting the pic.
