Here the holiday is for all vets and we have a special Memorial Day for those who gave their lives in May...
The vets were willing to give their lives and should be honored for that.
On the news the last couple of days they report that 25% of the homeless here in the U.S. are vets and most of those are women and/or disabled. Shame on US!
Hi Paul .. I'm glad you got there too. I really like that bottom one - it demonstrates the scale of loss in a way that individual crosses can't. I might get back there in the next day or to to get a few more (I'm thinking of trying an AV presentation of the whole thing)
A final set, including an alternative shooting method that would wreck my back.
The last is the obvious tourist shot, so I took it for you virtual tourists
The youngsters are looking at the newer crosses, in the section that includes memorials for those killed in Iraq.
Remember this is in honour of those who lost their lives in all wars, though the majority died in the Great war and in World War II we should not forget those who lost their lives in other conflicts.
Some lovely shots. Just one comment - I would have moved the DOF a little to the fore in the last one of set 3.
Diane,
Love the shot of the chap with the medals.

Roger, was that the one with just crosses and the focus at about 1/4 instead of 1/3 ?
What can I say - bending down for that - I'm still hurting today !
I'll do better next year, or crop it

Sadly most of my digital shots I can't display here because they went to SNAP (save the linked one.). I did fire off a roll of film which I'll have by by the 23rd to share then.

Beautiful shots, as a veteran I want to thank you for sharing these. The first two of your final set especially got to me. It wasn't until I had a son of my own, that I realized how big a sacrifice some military members make.

Thank you.
I talked to a few people, and the first two are I think possibly the strongest shots.
Both taken with their permission, no grab shots, no posing though.
Though the one from Iraq, "Aaron Lincoln, Rifleman" has a special memory for me.
I met his relatives and they said just as they came into the Field of Remembrance, they looked down and saw his cross immediately. What are the chances of that?
But they couldn't get a good photo with their P&S. So I shot this one and emailed it to them, I got a wonderful email back.
