Keep your eyes out for a post I'm going to make in the next day or two (just waiting for some info to come in the mail first). I'm going to post several pictures I took in Paris and I'm going to need everyone's advice on whether my shots fit the "category" and whether they're even close to being good enough to submit to a contest held by a conference I'm going to.

    Wow. Nice shot.
But where did that bizaar green color of the twigs above the bird and in the lower right come from?

Paulnj, on my monitor (Powerbook laptop), when I tilt the monitor back and forth, the bird and the tree limb shimmer against the green almost as if they were etched on silver!

    Very cool!

I have too many to choose from......

    but, Natalie liked this one

most of my images are "bird on a stick" type ID shots which are boring in most cases.

BTW,, this is a baby gambel's quail in my brother's hands

Thanks for the ID, Paul. Thanks for all the IDs, actually. Here's a tough little guy that has made a run at my head a few times trying to run me off when I walk down the sidewalk near his tree.

I've ben looking into it and hear that it is chromatic aberration that cna happen in uncoated long lenses. It is supposssed to go away if you stop down the lens enough. I'll try it and see.

the tern was with a F100/SIGMA 170-500 at 250mm or so on PROVIA 100F

the cuckoo and gambel's quail were with a 1D/ 100-400IS on LEXAR 1G

I usually don't crop, but the CUCKOO may be a crop(I can't remember)

If I wasn't a 3RD shift worker and had a film scanner that worked to my standards..... YOUR THREAD WOULD BE AT TOP FOR 6 MONTHS

working 3rd hinders me from shooting alot and scanning with my scanner does NO JUSTICE to the slide(SO I REFUSE to hook it back up)

    We thought he was sick...

But after a few minutes he wandered off. Maybe he was just sun bathing?

Here is one of my favorite pelican photos. We had a flock of about 60 in the lake for 2 weeks. They were awesome!

well a 3 YEAR OLD NORTHERN GANNET should be well above massachusetts by april... this guy was NOT were he should be.... sick or off course, NOT IN GOOD HEALTH if it's sitting on a beach.

these are palagic birds, not shore birds.

they rest by sitting IN THE OCEAN,not sandy beaches ;)

    Macaw in flight

Not as sharp as I would like, but I liked the form of the tail and the wings of this macaw in flight.

Okay, I guess I'll throw one into the mix. This was a grab shot at lunch today of some valley quail at Corriganville Park, where I usually take my lunch. Not that great of a photo but then again I've never really put much effort into bird shooting. I keep hearing a hawk screeching in this park, but I can never find him in a good enough position to take a photo.
