Is it that hard to believe that a male HOUSE FINCH would stay within it's race

Dude that finch is a breeding plumage MALE house finch(no RED in those WHITE wingbars) Believe me.... you will KNOW when you see a purple finch, they look deeper in color and have tons of it . I will give you that some house finches are deeper in color making them APPEAR to the untrained eye to be a purple finch ;)

HABITAT and location is a key factor too

I just don't have your skill Paul.

I hope to someday, but I still get confused by stupid things like that. I have the same problem with dragonflies. Some guy on a Canon forum just told me to rename 3 of my dragons.

Re: Post Your Bird Images Here!!!!!!!

Dude...... I made that mistake plenty UNTIL I found my first PURPLE finch ;)

I spent 20 months BIRDING every day ..... EVERY DAY!!!!! I learned from a bunch of AMAZING birders, yet still make mistakes I shouldn't.

I strive to be HALF as good as my cousin is at birds(not just ID, but everything about them!!)

dragonflies and butterfly/moths are rediculously hard once you get past the common ones, so don't feel bad ;)

    Sure I have

We also have FEMALE american blackducks here coastally, though coastal birding isn't what I enjoy as much as hunting down neotropicals .

I prefer to spend my springs/ early summers chasing the tropical birds that come here to breed(namely warblers, tanagers...)

Re: Post Your Bird Images Here!!!!!!!

You nearly got me!!! I am not familiar with EVERY bird in the world(I seriously doubt more than a handfull of people are) and at first I thought it may be an odd looking rail from that beak and stubby tail.

    BUT.......

The shape, color, beak and habitat PLUS the fact you say it's common lead me to believe it's a MAGPIE on second thought

You are joking right? You don't really believe that I can't ID a SIGNET do you? That bill and neck are a give away!

Being as Florida has no TRUE WILD breeding population I will say if it's a US species it's a mute swan.
