Post your b&w images - digital or film....

B&W images have always been my favorite. My favorite film was Delta Ilford - and I often used a red filter. I could never do anything much with a digital conversion. I think it's workable in Photoshop, but PSElements doesn't have the tools as far as I know.

Recently I've seen some excellent b&w images taken with the Panasonic LX3. It has a "dynamic b&w" mode and you can change in-camera settings when using it.

This is my first try. It's a bit bland and/or flat - and I can't compare it to other LX3 b&w images I've seen, but I wanted to at least try it out. I just used the default dynamic b&w settings since I didn't have the manual with me.

This is probably one of my most favorite b&w's I've done. I'm weird, I know! It's a rack of shot puts at league for my son's hs.

Great idea Liz. I am also a B&W film fan. My favorite was Ilford HP5 shot at ISO 250 and then processed normally with Kodak D76. That gave me great negatives to work with and super fine grain. I think I still have a few rolls in my freezer now that I think about it. Although I've never seen a digital B&W that looked as good to me as film, I have done a few.

JETA those are some great images! I especially love that last one. I hope that found its way onto a large print for display.

I decided to start going through my stuff and of course the first folder I opened brought me to some of the shots I'd taken of this old barn a while ago so then immediatly thought of this thread and the rest is history. I like this much better than the color....the sky is much much better.

All these b&w images are great! I love viewing them. Seeing so many excellent photos really encourages me to learn how to work with digital b&w.

My wife. My son. My daughter. Please keep in mind I'm shooting w/ a Kodak EasyShare 4.0mp.
If I could afford it I would shoot film, If I were wealthy I'd shoot at least 6mp DSLR, but until then it's all photoshop.
Oh and I tossed in a artsy-fartsy one of a lake, called "Moonlit Lake". I only named it so literally to help "sell" the idea that it was actually shot at night,...in reality it was shot at around 2:00 in the afternoon. lol

There are so many awesome images here - each one unique - that I'm blown away by all the talent! I'm surprised so many people enjoy b&w. I feel right at home in this environment!

Thanks for sharing, everyone. For me personally, it's very encouraging and I can't wait for the rain to stop so I can begin to learn how to do this with my LX3 - and get good results.

We're getting some outstanding images in this thread. Axle thanks for posting some film images, I didn't even think about it until you posted them. I have a bunch of scans from B&W negs on my computer at home, I'll have to dig out a few of them for this post.
