    Cool Picked tonight - woohoo

Was chosen tonight as "house photographer" for Funksion Fashion Week in South Beach. Really excited about this - no fighting for a spot on the riser

    Well done, a worthy choice.
You know that fashion scene makes me think of something I think Spock once said

Still processing the thousands of images from last night and downloading tonight's shots, but thought you guys might get a chuckle out of these - color check of the lighting system tonight (me), and "the pit" from last night.

    Re: Picked tonight - woohoo

I know about 1/4 of the guys at this event by name. I recognize maybe 2/3 from seeing their faces at other events. Miami is referred to as a "second tier city" in the fashion world though, so there are less media outlets covering the events than NY/London/Paris/Milan. After a while you learn who shoots for what publication and you start looking for them at the registration events (the big shows usually have some sort of party the night before the first night to hand out press passes). The "regulars" trade info on upcoming shows, new designers, new models, etc via linkedin or facebook and it's surprisingly civilized. The agressive, impatient, competitive photogs are the newcomers who haven't yet learned how things work at these events. (They would be outside the frame in the above shot, to the left & right of the riser) . Standard start time for these events in Miami is 2 hours after whatever the published start time is, so the new guys are easy to peg - they'll be the first ones complaining that the show didn't start on time

Frankly I enjoyed the "insider" info on the fashion photography scene. Interesting stuff

I've just been wondering what I should wear to my fashion shoots. Got another one coming up shortly (I hope).

I can manage the jeans and the blue shirt but I'm going to have to do without the beard..

Not buying any more gear this year. I hope
