    Photo of Alaska's Denali NP

On the road in Alaska and managed to find a computer with very limited photo download and editing capabilities. Here's a shot from Denali National Park yesterday.. it just let up raining for the first time in days. Not a photo tour so to speak, just too crazy and crowded, but you might get lucky

Those mountains are awesome. The mountains here in Utah are great. But Alaska and Colorado put them in perspective. Nice photo, too. You've lost cloud detail - don't forget to expose for the highlight details. It's easy enough to bring up the foreground later

I hope you get to shoot a lot. I'm looking forward to your photos when you get back!

Re: Photo of Alaska's Denali NP

    Guys,

Thanks. I'm back. It was an experience for sure, not quite what I expected it to be: I thought Alaska would be more wooded, and warmer during the summer. Denali can snow at any time they say, and we were incredibly lucky to see the mountain because (again) they say that only happens about 20% of the time.

Shooting out of the side of a bus is insane. It's not something a serious photographer going here to get really great shots could stand. Window seats were taken, so had to lean over. Some windows were filmed up or scratched, including mine. You can lower the top of the window but they stick, and the breeze was so cold that when some people left them down it solicitated a lot of complaints. Driver would stop when someone yelled to, as wildlife sitings are sort of few and far between, but always at just the less than ideal spot, and would keep inching the bus, jarring my camera and blurring some shots. I also only had a 70-210mm lens, reasoning that I would never get great shots anyway on such a tour (actually, you could with some great concentration and luck ...).

You can get off the buses and hike in, but since you could go 5 miles w/o seeing anything I am guessing walking into the park at any position was a crap shoot. Cold and windy out there - you would really need to be bundled up. Bear-grade pepper spray wouldn't be a bad idea either, if not so much for the bears, but moose. They kill and injure far more people in Alaska than bears.

Bob, I am going to put together such a blog, with photos, as that sounds really fun for people to see what it was. It might take a bit to so it, so hang tight and I will make sure you know when it is finished!

    Print it BIG. Really big.

Maybe you can ask Don about getting those great bus window shots :wink5:

Hope you had a good trip.

This is a really cool shot that you definately could not find in just any state. Great capture with nice contrasting colors.

Imagine climbing those mountains - even in the "summer."
