    Payments

Hey again guys, haven't been here in a lil bit. Ok anyway to the point:

I was snapping some photos and my neighbor offered me a job. If I take some photos of their two dogs and possibly their 1 year old child they'll pay me for it. How much should I charge, should there be a difference in price for black and white or color? And what do you think should be my prices fr the animals and child/. Would it be a good idea to also see if I can get the animals and child together (they're basically letting me choose how they want to be photographed)? I can't charge too much because A. I am a complete amateur. B. This would be my first photoshoot for money.

    Thanks guys

Charge them what it takes you to buy and develop film, plus a slight markup. If you're shooting digital, charge them what it would take to buy and develop film, plus a slight markup, and call it the digital fee.

How to tell the most experienced shooter in a group? They have the least amount of toys on them.

    My thoughts,

How well do you know the neighbours. If they are close friends, then do it for cost price and use the experience as a learning experience to help improve your photogaphy.

If they aren't close, decide if you really want to make money from them, again they might be more than just neighbours.

If they insist then make 10-20% above cost price and that should be sufficient, don't tell them the percentage, just say you are covering your costs etc.

Sometimes makeing money isn't really a persons main issue and being friends is often more important to all parties.

    Hope that helps.

You said cost price. By cost price do you mean the price most businesses charge or something I'm completely missing? And I kind of know them I've talked to them a couple times but not like extremely close.

What Seb said is my meaning of cost price. What is costs you out of pocket to take the images. If you take a roll of film and get that developed and it costs you $10, charge them $10 + extra costs of power, motor vehicle cost of going to get it developed and picking it up, postage if you used that. My feelings are you are hesitant to charge anything, but covering your costs always is a good idea.

I know you have read Sebastian's post, but just wanted to clarify it for other readers as well.
