OT - Cell phone telemarketing

I posted this here vs Off Topic Discussions because it's not religion or politics, etc. ;)

It's a reminder that cell phones will be vulnerable to telemarketers in a few weeks and we pay for the minutes. I thought some of us might need a reminder and the link/phone number to prevent any calls. I was most grateful to receive this in an email from a friend.

Subject: CELL PHONE NUMBERS

JUST A REMINDER... 21 days from today, cell phone
numbers are being released to telemarketing companies
and you will start to receive sale calls. YOU WILL BE
CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS... These telemarketers will
eat up your free minutes and end up costing you money
in the long run.

To prevent this, call the following number from your
cell phone: 888/382-1222. It is the National DO NOT
CALL list. It will only take a minute of your time. It
blocks your number for five (5) years.

I think this should be off topic because its not about photo stuff

Anyways i think the do not call list is a scam we still get tons of calls even thow we are still on it.

I debated about putting this in OT - but we've always had off topic discussions here and continue to do so as the OT forum was created basically for controversial subjects - like politics and religion, etc. although there are a variety of topics discussed there. VF is sort of like our "living room" where our discussions can be open. We do mostly photographic topics, but we're flexible. It is a bit of a gray area.

I have to say, that since I registered on the do-not-call list, we have had no calls that I can remember. We used to get anywhere from 2 to 10 a day - seriously! Always in the evening. We don't get them anymore.
