    nikon samuaris? clan o'canon?

I'm still new to the board. I like to visit the PR everynight before i go to sleep. I've noticed that a lot of members have a nikon samuari or clan o'canon icon within their signature. I was curious on what that is? is that a group within the forum? I tried to use the search on the site but found no results. Thanks for fillin' me in.

Friendly trash talking between members that prefer Canon, Nikon or Minolta equipment. There is no real substance to it, just having fun.

That is really a good way to put it.

    Re: nikon samuaris? clan o'canon?

It's all about which is best...which we all know is NIKON!

Actually, it's just which system someone uses. And you'll notice that there are a lot more folks on this forum that don't have one of those logo's, then do have them.

It's all just having fun picking back and forth. Practically everyone on this forum will tell you it's the photographer, not the equipment that makes a photograph. That's not a typo, the photographer MAKES a photograph. The camera is just the lightbox used to take the image.

Welcome to PR, and do get active. You will learn a lot here.

BTW, what system do you use?

Yeah, it's just our way of showing off what we use. There's also the Pentax K-Team for users of Pentax cameras.

So I don't have to go through any kind of initiation or hazing to add the Clan O'Canon logo to my signature?

Nope. Just sell your Canon, pick up a Nikon and Speed will give you a number

Oh, right you meant the other one. Well, I think all you have to do is give yourself a name O'Canon and steal the graphic from someone else's siggy.

Hey now. We don't want to be corrupting all these young, impressionable kids with your talk of Nikon. They might get the wrong idea and buy the wrong thing.

    Re: nikon samuaris? clan o'canon?

Cameras themselves fascinate me as much as photography in general. I have always found them to be interesting machines because they're complex at the same time that they are simple (speaking here of the old mechanical 35mm machines mainly). The parts themselves are simple springs, screws and levers. But added up all these simple parts becomes something very complex that requires precise adjustment, like a Swiss watch.

I tend to think of the camera as a machine that has to take the place of the artist's pencil or paint set and equipment. Everyone is very product oriented in terms of the photograph (or the sketch or painting). But I find a certain beauty and art in the construction of the camera as machine as well.

I am also amazed at the workings of a camera. I remember in the first few years of owning an SLR I used to push the shutter button just to hear the sound and watch the mirror flip up. Yet for all it's complexity, a camera remains "a light-proof box with a hole in it."
