    New Yawk

For those of you who don't know, I've been in New York City for the past week for the Olympus E-3 DSLR intro and the annual PhotoPlus Expo tradeshow. I stayed with my friend Elsa, in her fabulous East Village apartment. The panoramic below is the view looking north from her place. (Please click on the image to see the large [5000 pixels] version. This little one looks terrible!)

And below is one I took from a cab on Madison Avenue. This was somewhere in Midtown, looking west.

    Coney Island

In all the times I've visited New York, I've done very few touristy things. My friend told me that developers have got ahold of Coney Island and plan to replace a lot of it with beachfront condos. So we made a trip down there to take pictures, while I still had a chance. It's off-season, but the weather has been very spring-like and it was really, really nice. But it's still kind of creepy and has a definite carney atmosphere.

    Times Square

I spent one night in a really nice hotel in Times Square. This is a view from my room.

Very cool John. I had heard about the developer buying up parts of Coney Island. I have never been to NY but after hearing that, it made me want to get out there before it's too late. I'm glad you got a chance to see it before it's gone.

    Start spreadin' da news...

Nice shots, John. I'm envious. I'd love to shoot those Coney Island spots in early or late light...

Thanks for taking us along John. Not a New York kind of a guy, but I sure enjoyed your photos.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

New York is fun to visit. And I've got friends there I don't get to see enough. But I sure am happy to be back in Utah, with the mountains, open skies, and a lot less people.

Aacckk!! I was forced onto the Wonder Wheel by my dad when I was just a kid (8?). I was terrified and screaming the entire ride - he made us go in the cars that rolled on the tracks ("If you're going to go on, you might as well get your money's worth!"). Scary memories.

Great photos. Love the one of the grill place.

Um - and no, my Dad DIDN'T ride the Wonder Wheel - just us 3 kids.

    Re: New Yawk

Great shots John........I was born in NY and lived there until school - then moved to Ohio but went back to NY every year to spend the summer with my Grandmother. Then moved to NJ and still visit NY. However, I was never in Coney Island. I guess I'll have to go there after being reminded it won't be there forever.

    Thanks for sharing your trip.

    Liz
