new to these parts

Hi! I'm Jayson
wow that sounded like the intro to a spam email. anyway, as you may have guessed, my name is jayson and i am a new member of this site. i am a freshman in mechanical engineering at the University of Missouri-rolla and i am very into modified cars which is where my passion for photography started. as a member of several car forums, i see many great pictures of people's cars and i wanted to make my pictures look like that. i am just getting into photography, having only had a camera of my own for about 6 months. for graduation, my grandpa got me a sony cyber-shot DCS-W30 6 mp point and shoot digital. not the best or the fanciest, i know, but it is great for what i like to do. before that i used my moms old sony digital and her newer samsung 6 mp digi. i know that this isnt the cratique forum, so thats not why i'm posting pictures. i just wanted to show where i'm at as far as photography goes. i have had several snapping sessions, but only a few that i would call "shoots." here are several pictures of my girlfriend, my car, the trip to europe i took with my school, and GM's visit to the UMR campus where they brought their pontiac solstice with the corvette ZO6 V8 (cue the tim taylor grunt).

here's some of my europe trip. we went from paris to rome, hitting nice and florence along the way. i got a lot of great shots this trip, but heres a few:

i love this pic of the eiffel tower, never seen one like this.

here is a really cool shot of Nice from the road to Monaco along the Medditerranean

and finally, my car. i am proud most of these pictures.



well, there ya go. these are my favorite pics of my entire (however short) photography experience so far. thanks in advance for any comments.

Hi Jayson and welcome. Just a bit of history between a couple of car guys.
In 1966,I owned a 66' Chevelle Super Sport,396cu.in.,375hp,4spd,posi rear.
Now,driving back from the west coast to my home in NY,late at night I noticed what I thought might be valve lifter noise! Ouch! I look up and see a billboard lit-up, advertising Rolla Ford,stating that they were also an authorized Chevy repair dealer,off the ramp find a motel,ask if they know where Rolla ford is located,"Yes,just down the street a bit",was the answer. Next morning I pulled into Rolla Ford at about 7:30am, the service mgr. checked out the car,determined it was a Chevy re-call problem with the wrist-pins in that engine,took the motor apart to make sure,put it back together(bought me a sandwich for lunch in the middle of all this!) and told me to keep the revs down till I got my home dealer,gave me a copy of his work order to show my dealer and sent me on the way,by 3:00pm the same day! Did not charge me one cent for new oil,gaskets etc.
I owned that car for three more years(it was stolen) I have warm feelings when I think of Rolla Missouri

Looks like you've already got a good start with some beautiful subjects. To me, it looks like you've got a pretty good eye for composition. With experience and learning the technical aspects I'll bet you get some awesome shots in no time.

How many times did you paint your car?

i have never painted my car, it came like that straight from honda, laurel blue. the white balance on the first one was different from the other two, making the car look grey, but those three were taken within a 2 days of each other. i have had it for about a year and a half, and she is a beauty.

thanks for your support, im going to put a few of my things in the critique forum tonight.

and conbu, rolla really is a nice town. i havent gone out for a photo sesion of the nicer parts yet, but it is just begging for it. i will have another subject soon in the university's Formula SAE car (of which i designed the brand new paddle shifter!). we just need to finish it first!

Welcome to the site, from a fellow ME. I wasn't part of SAE, but one time they had John Hennessey bring one of his Dodge Viper "Venom" cars up to the school and I went to see it. He gave a very interesting presentation. That car had about 600 hp and sounded amazing.

Good luck with school and with your photography. It looks like you're off to a good start.
