    New Shooter

    Hi All...

I was outside for a while and returned to see my kids (age 12 and 7) finishing an episode of Top Model and dragging my gear out. They asked a few questions and proceeded to "set up" for their "studio" shots. My daughter 7 decided she was the "photoist" (as she says) and wanted to use her doll as the model. Then my son (12) wanted to be the model. He looked up some ads on the net and tried them out for the "photoist". When my wife got home, they used her and gave directions....

I had to let them go (even though they had MY gear ). They drug out black blankets and a white piece of canvas I had in the garage and some of my work lights and BINGO a studio  . They set up the poses and shot the models.....They are slave drivers and kinda bossy... I don't want to work for them.

Here is what they got... I PSed for size and some editing like auto contrast...

The 7 year old photog's pics...

Come on! You helped. Didn't you?
I'd be happy if I'd done those first two and the third ain't bad!
Looks like the portrait shooters have some competition.

ciddog91, these are great. Made me smile. Looks like you have a budding portrait photographer in your midst. Try setting her up with an inexpensive P&S (if there is such a thing) and let her go. You would be amazed what kids can do (or maybe not, now, after this experience).

    Cheers,

    Re: New Shooter

Frog, I did help with the settings, but left the rest up to them...

Guy.... I gave my kids both a P&S and they shoot all the time..

I love that they figure stuff out. But they did take about 90 photos.... adjusting some here and there. My 7 year old looked at every picture on the camera to see what she needed to do differently.

I would be happy if mine came out like this..... Maybe I need her to coach me...

"They are slave drivers and kinda bossy... I don't want to work for them." I almost spit my coffee out laughing at that. How fun for them (and you!) Kids are great, they have no real fear and just assume they can do anything.......how I wish for those days again! Great memories for you!

    Re: New Shooter

I was laughing so hard watching them, I had to go into the other room so they would not see me. I took a few with my phone to send to my wife who was on here way home to let her get a good chuckle .

Here is the "boss" at work.....

Not only does she look like she knows what she's doing, I think she really does know.
Sure you helped her with some settings but it appears she knew what she wanted and knows what's good. She'll be famous someday.

    Re: New Shooter

Thank you both for the comments. My daughter thinks your posts were "awesome". She is inspired to take more photos now. She is planning her "big shoot".

I will post some if they turn out.

    Re: New Shooter

I was struck by the different colour shadows in the picture of your wife, so if your daughter's going to use the work lights again it would help to have them matched to the daylight from the windows.
