New Quick Poll - Your Main Camera

I started out making a new poll that would show me how many people were still shooting film. But it ended up being more detailed than that. So what's your main camera?

What Camera Do You Use The Most >>

Feel free to discuss. Although I use a lot of cameras, my mainstay is my smaller, consumer-level digital SLR. I have a pro digital SLR. But it's getting a little long-in-the-tooth and it's a beast.

My main camera is my Nikon D2h. I use it 99% of the time, unless I'm shooting freelance for a certain company, then I use their gear.

Sometimes I'll use my D70, but thats only if I need to run 2 lenses & I don't want to change lenses all the time.

my main camera...haha, Canon A510 3 megapixel, it has a good range of manual controls (ISO, Aperture, shutter speed up to 15 seconds, macro, manual focus) It prints up to 11"x14"

All this for $200, 2 years ago, and in a format that fits in my back pocket, it's seen rain, wind, fire, snow, and still works.

    Mine too! Sadly.

I want a 30D but my bank account refuses to produce that much money.

I know the feeling Ray. I'm still holding out (and saving my pennies) for a D30 replacement.

XTi is the answer, fellas. It's more camera than you think. Do you really need a spot meter or 5 fps? For most people, I think the XTi is actually more camera.

John, the Xti has whats called "Partial Metering" (one of the three metering modes it offers) and it utilizes a very small area of the center of the viewfinder.I think most mid to high range cameras offer these modes. This would be very close to spot metering. Also, with the sophistication of the in-cameras metering systems, the ability to dial in over and under exposure, LCD's and built in histograms, I personally feel that the need for spot meters and hand held light meters are becoming a thing of the past. ( Except if one is shooting large format or some medium format systems that do not use such in-camera weapons). Also, I would gather that studio photogs would still use handheld spots and such, but my type of shooting does not utilize it much at all.

The spot meter is a wash for me, but the 5 fps would be very nice. The DRebel is 3 fps, and I find it to be very slow when shooting fast moving birds, and other critters. There is no dought that the XTi is a great camera, but I'm still holding out to see what's next in the mid level range from Canon. I'm also hoping that the 30D replacement uses the same batteries as the DRebel, 20D & 30D since I have 4 of them.

Of course the $ saved on the XTi would help pay for the 70-200 f/2.8L IS

On a side note, I heard a pod cast yesterday with a rep from Canon. He said that the Mk III was the ONLY new DSLR that Canon was going to be offering this spring, so I'll be sticking with the Rebel for a while yet.

I've been using the original Canon 1D for my primary body for almost 3 1/2 years. Although I have to admit that I've started using my wife's 20D for snapshots around the house because it's so much lighter.

The majority of the time, I carry my Samsung NV10, at least since Christmas time, and I'm actually taking most of my pictures with a digital point and shoot for the last year (Canon SD600, and SD700). Before that, I pretty much shot with my current slr or dslr, which the last three years has been the 1D mk II with a minimum of two lenses, at least one spare battery, and as many CF cards and SD cards as I could spare. Even when I had the G1 and later the G2, most of my shots were taken with either a film slr (EOS-1V) or a dslr (D30, D60, 10D, 1D, 1D Mk II), even though I tended to carry the G1 or G2 more often than an slr or dslr.

My only camera in use right now--the D70. I do have a Minolta Maxxum 5000 film slr, but haven't used it since 2004. Thinking about adding a p & s to replace the HP Photosmart 850 I gave my son and daughter-in-law in November.

Post a review for your NV10! I know we need reviews for that camera. I got to play with it doing studio tests and product shots for our pro review. It's a cool little camera and the first camera from Samsung that I could really say I liked. I thing Samsung is definitely on track with their new cameras.
